Mama Carter was a mother to many. I spent many days in the home during my high school years because Josie and I were so close. People even thought we were sisters. Mama Carter would say you my baby too. I loved her gentle spirit. Her heart was big as the earth and she would do anything for anybody if she could. She left a mark in her community and everywhere she went. May her legacy continue throughout those she has impacted. Rest well Mama Carter, you have truly earned your reward. Love Lisa
We conversed by phone as we were introduced to a warm welcome by you and Josie. The smiles was enough to bring me to Heartfelt tears of joy... my sincere apologies for not physically meeting you... what I will hold dear to my heart is knowing someone as special as you Ms. Marie Louise Smith Carter Isley... the yellow candle is given as a continuous glow of light in our life every time the Sun Shines and Candles are lite every where... heartfelt love.... Respectfully,
"Mama" as Josie so affectionately calls her was the highlight of my trip to NC back in 2018! She was always along for the ride — always engaging with us, coming in the car with us, watching TV / movies with us (except when The View was on — then she was focused on that!), and much to my delight, always sharing her biscuits with me! She showed me her church and introduced me to her friends and made sure I experienced some real Southern cooking! She was up for any experience and any conversation no matter what. I will miss her, but will carry those memories with me forever!
