Obituary For Willie Mae Martin

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born and a time to die a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted." Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Willie Mae Martin passed away peacefully at the home of Anotha and Daisy Burt in Newnan, Georgia on October 3, 2022. She was encircled with the love of her family by her bedside.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF MRS. WILLIE MAE MARTIN

Willie Mae Winters-Martin, the fourth of ten children, was born on December 7, 1917 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to the proud parents of Louis Bob Winters and Victoria Clark-Winters.

Willie Mae received her education in Kosciusko, Mississippi, where she attended Mount Moriah Grade School and graduated from Tipton High School. Willie Mae was baptized at a very early age. She became a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church and served as an Usher.

On June 7, 1947, Willie Mae married Terry Martin, the love of her life. In 1951, the couple moved to Milwaukee where she became a faithful member of King Solomon Baptist Church, serving as an usher and choir member. She was employed at the Wisconsin Hotel as a Guest Service Agent. Willie Mae always possessed a steadfast unwavering commitment and love for her family, which led her and her husband to move back to Mississippi to care for her mother.

After returning to Mississippi, Willie Mae reinstated her membership with Mount Moriah Baptist Church, serving as an usher, Youth Sunday School Teacher, and Chairman of the Mission Society. Willie Mae remained a dedicated member of Mount Moriah until she was no longer able to drive for long distances. In March of 2018, after a brief stay in the Hospital, she moved to Newnan, Georgia to reside with her niece and nephew, Daisy and Anotha Burt who were like a daughter and son to her. Daisy and Anotha along with her great niece and nephew Annethia and Rufus, became her chosen care givers.

Willie Mae was constantly exuding joy and laughter; she possessed a great sense of humor and a lust for life. Willie Mae found peace in reading the Bible and relaxation and pride in reading the book, The Society we live in which was written by her great nephew Jack L. Brooks, Jr. She also enjoyed reading and watching Joel Osteen Ministries, The Steve Harvey Show, Family Feud, Daytime Soaps such as the Bold and Beautiful and The Young and The Restless, and all of the Tyler Perry Productions.

Willie Mae enjoyed spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her loved ones. She was also a skilled gardener of vegetables and flowers. Relatives and friends would always feel welcome to have a seat at her dinner table. They often left with gifts from her table and garden. This beloved woman of God always enriched the lives of those around her through her generous and sincere love for others along with her charm, wit, and wisdom throughout her one hundred and four years of life.

Willie Mae demonstrated a great compassion and affinity for her family. Those that she cherished and loved deeply were her late husband Terry, her parents, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and cousins. Although Terry and Willie Mae were not the parents of biological children, they both felt blessed because God had given them such a wonderful extended family. Willie Mae was always helping to take care of nieces and nephews, and she treated them as if they were her own.

Willie Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Martin; parents, Louis Bob and Victoria Clark Winters; four sisters, Minnie Simmons, Eddie M. Brooks, Rosie Winters, and Annie G. Ausitn; five brothers, T.J. Winters, Henry Winters, Louis Winters, A.L. Winters, Euell Winters and her special nephew L.T. Winters.

She also leaves to cherish her memory: One stepdaughter, Leverne Anderson. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Special caring and devoted family members include her niece, Daisy (Anotha), Airmeda Cocroft, Yvonne (Leroy) Todd, Marshall (Louise) Winters, Tony (Patricia) Austin, Oglee (Linda) Alston, Mary Williams, Wilbur Brooks, Great niece and nephew Annethia (Rufus), Louise (Susan) Simmons, Don (LaShai) Martin, Debra Bush-Munson; and dear friends, Christine Mallett and Sherri Clark; and a host of other nieces, nephews, friends and family. Willie Mae would not want us to forget Spice, her beloved dog that she adored and enjoyed watching him via video, after she moved from Mississippi.

Her life was exemplified to others by the fruits of the spirit in accordance with Galatians 5:22: Patience, gentleness, faithfulness, kindness, joy, peace and love.
