Obituary For Sandford "Skipper" Yowk

Sandford “Skipper” Yowk, son of the late Leodis and Annie B. Harmon Yowk, was born March 28, 1955, in Kosciusko, MS. He was fifth of seven siblings.

As a young child he accepted Christ and became a member of the Christian Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Tipton Street High School.

Skipper enlisted in the United States Army in 1980 and served his country for more than three years. After being honorable discharged from the U.S. Army, he made his home in St. Louis, Missouri.

His first marriage was to Lily Irene Gladney, they became parents to three beautiful daughters and Skipper later married Marion Crump from Bruce, MS. God blessed them to be together for 24 years.

He worked for St. Louis International Airport for several years. By trade, Skipper was an automatic mechanic, handy man, and a very good painter. He never met a stranger, always had a smile, jokes and a loud laugh. He was always the life of all family gatherings and reunions.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Malcolm E. Yowk, sister, Norma Faye Sias, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He departed this life on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Barnes - Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

Skipper survivors include his wife; Marion, three daughters, Valerie (Casteal) Foster, Stephanie Yowk, and Daphne Lindsay; three sisters, Doris Phillips, Shirley Davis, and Everlena (James) Johnson; two brothers, Mathew Yowk and Rev. Leon (Jacqueline) Yowk; four grand-daughters, Kayla Oatis, Delores Lindsay, Aubrey Lindsay, and Millah Yowk; three sisters-in-law, Brenda (Paul) Kennedy, Bobbie Anderson, and Nancy Yowk; four brothers-in-law, Joe (Irene) Anderson, Roy (Ruby) Anderson, David Anderson, and Melvin Sias; uncle, Melvin Huffman, a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

PLACE OF SERVICE: Winters Funeral Home Chapel, Kosciusko, MS

DATE OF SERVICE: Wednesday 08/28/2024 at 11:00 a.m.

INTERMENT: North MS Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Kilmichael, MS

VIEWING: Tuesday 08/27/2024 at 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Winters Funeral Home
