Obituary For Malinda Winters

Malinda Winters was born in McCool, MS to the late Rev. Henry R. Winters Sr. and Lula Potts Winters on January 3, 1931, in Attala County, MS. She was the seventh child of eleven children. Malinda peacefully went to be with The Lord on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 5:30 a.m.

At an early age, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of Fancher Hill Missionary Baptist Church, McCool, MS and was an active member. She later joined Christian Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, Kosciusko, MS and served in many capacities including: singing in the choir, lead tutor in the Parent Teacher Student Association After School Program and The Eargia Winters Scholarship Committee, to name a few.

It was obvious to her father the critical need that his children be educated. Malinda graduated from elementary school at Fancher Hill Public Schools, McCool, MS and high school at Attala County Training School (Tipton Street High School) Kosciusko, MS at the age of sixteen. She received the Bachelor of Science Degree in English from Jackson State University, Jackson, MS and a Master of Science Degree from Alabama State University, Montgomery, Alabama. She did further studies at many other universities. Her teaching career began in the Attala County Public School System of MS and continued as an English Teacher at Louisville High School, Louisville, MS for twelve years. She ended her professional career as a tenured Assistant Professor of English for over twenty years at Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena, MS.

Malinda was an avid season ticket holder of Jackson State University football. She also enjoyed reading, word games, shopping for clothes, traveling the United States and abroad, and baking her famous butter pound cake for the family. She was active in many professional and civic organizations including: Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Rho Nu Zeta Charter Member and Undergraduate Student Advisor at Mississippi Valley State University. She was treasurer of the National Council of Negro Women, Kosciusko Attala Section.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six of her siblings: brother, J.D. Winters, Sr; sisters, Elnora Henson, Eargia Winters, Martha Wallace, Annie Lee Hubbert, and Alberta Jennings.

Cherishing her loving memories are her remaining siblings: LB Winters of Cleveland Ohio; Henry R. Winters, Jr. of Maple Heights, Ohio; Kenneth (Brenda) Winters of Kosciusko, MS; and Nellie W. Tolliver of Jackson, MS; a special niece, caretaker, and namesake, Malinda Winters of Kosciusko, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

INTERMENT: Parkway Cemetery, Kosciusko, MS
