Obituary For Kayla Erving Gadson

It is with heavy heart that we convey the somber news of the departure of our dearly loved sister, Kayla Yvette Erving-Gadson. Her unexpected transition on June 17, 2024, at the tender age of 40, has left us in a state of deep mourning.

Born into this world on October 3, 1983, in Durant, MS, Kayla was the cherished daughter of Mary Alice Erving and Otha B. Gadson. She blossomed in the nurturing environments of Durant, MS and Minneapolis, MN, sharing her childhood with her siblings, Otha M. Erving-Gadson and Amber L. Erving-Gadson. Her educational journey took her from Durant Elementary School to Patrick Henry High School, and further to Normandale College and Rasmussen University, where she proudly earned her credentials as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Kayla's essence was one of boundless love and service; she was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend. Her radiant personality, her smile that could light up the darkest of rooms, and her heart, ever so generous, endeared her to everyone she encountered. A fervent admirer of NBA legends Ray Allen and Tracy McGrady, Kayla found joy in the simple pleasures of life - be it in the kitchen conjuring up culinary delights, immersing herself in learning, cherishing moments with her beloved nieces and nephew, or embarking on soulful journeys through music and time. Her adventures with her younger brother Otha to Walmart remain etched in our memories.

Kayla faced adversities with remarkable fortitude, her resilience a testament to her indomitable spirit. She battled on valiantly to the very end, her steadfast faith a beacon of hope and inspiration to us all.

Her legacy is preceded by her father, Otha B. Gadson; her grandparents, Isie B. and Ellis Erving, and May Hellen Gadson; her uncles, Ellis Jr. Erving, Arther Lee Erving, Willie C. Winters, and Emmitt Erving; and her aunts, Leora E. Pierce and Marjorie Erving.

Kayla's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her mother, Mary Alice Erving-Gadson; her brother, Otha Maurice Erving-Gadson; her sister, Amber; her nephew and nieces, Cayden Alex Erving-Osburn, Alice Evelyn Ridout, and Abigail Isie Ridout; her aunts, Viola Collins of West, MS, Mary Lee Warren, Hattie B. Erving-Wade, and Jessie Lee Erving, all of Minneapolis, MN, and Dillie Thompson of Hattiesburg, MS; her uncle Geroge Lee Erving of Jackson, MS, and Van Erving (Kay Frances) of West, MS; along with a multitude of relatives and friends who felt her warmth and love.

As we bid farewell to Kayla, we find solace in the belief that she has found serenity in a realm beyond our own, liberated from all earthly tribulations. We pray for her soul to find everlasting peace.
