Obituary For Josephine Perteet Pierce

Josephine Pierce was born to Dock and Mariach Perteet on March 24, 1936. She was one of nine total children in the family, all of which expired before her including: Mary Blanche Buchanan, Dock, Henry, George, James Clyde, Johnny Perteet, and Lillie Mae Jones. Her husband, Augusta Pierce is deceased also.

Josephine Pierce attended the local grammar and high school of that time, and thereafter married Augusta Pierce and moved to Chicago, Illinois. They had two children, Deborah and Augusta Pierce.

Josephine was a dispatcher for the Chicago Police Department and commercial security as well.

She later returned to Sallis, Mississippi with her adopted son, Jeffery Thurman. She worked at the Kosciusko Hospital Dietary Department as a cook until after Jeffery completed his college education then she retired.

She has been a member of more than one church, the last and current being Bethlehem, where she served in the choir for several years.

Josephine is survived by three children: Jeffery Thurman, Memphis, TN, Deborah and Augusta Pierce of Israel as Dual citizens of the United States and Israel. She has 23 grandchildren, and 33 great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous children and grandchildren of her eight siblings.

Josephine loved to entertain and engaged with others through storytelling, funny jokes, challenging card games and conversation. Many will agree that she was not often offset by the opposing side. In addition, she enjoyed and maintained pets throughout her life including dogs, as well as her beloved goldfish.
