Obituary For Edward Greenwood

Edward Greenwood was born on April 19, 1968 in Durant, MS to Felix and Lillie D. Greenwood. He passed away unexpectedly due to a heart attack on May 15, 2020 at his residence in Alexandria VA at the age of 52.

He graduated in 1986 from McAdams High School in Sallis, MS. After graduation he joined the Navy and retired after 22 years of service. He earned several medals. While in the Navy Edward earned his Bachelor's Degree in Management of Technical Operations and Master's in Management. Upon retirement from the Navy he started a second career with Preferred Systems Solutions (McLean, VA) as a Lead Contract Specialist supporting the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was looking forward to retiring from that current job next year and pursuing his love of traveling and spending time with family.

Edward was a dedicated and loving father to his daughter Kayla Southard (Stacy) and granddaddy to his grandson Adam Burton. He treasured his daughter and grandson and embraced every moment with them. He had a great sense of humor and always made people around him laugh. He made friends everywhere he went and was well respected and loved by his coworkers. He lived a very stress free, fulfilling life and always wished the same for his siblings. He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughter Kayla Southard (Stacy) and grandson, Adam Burton of Opelika, Alabama.

Along with the above-mentioned loved ones, Edward is survived by his father, Felix Greenwood, Jr of Sallis, MS. Four brothers: Felix, III (Ruth) of Sallis, MS.; Thomas of Canton, MS; Robert (Carol) of Virginia Beach, VA; and James (Patricia) of Sallis, MS. Five sisters: Mary N. Greenwood of Milwaukee, WI; Betty J. Roundtree (Rinzy) of Milwaukee, WI; Brenda J. Greenwood of Milwaukee, WI; Linda F. Riley of Sallis MS; and twin sister Evelyn Swain (Myron) of Lompoc, CA. The mother of his daughter, Karen Greenwood of Toney AL, also survives him.

His mother Lillie D Greenwood and oldest brother Cicero Greenwood precedes him in death. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, will miss him dearly.

A graveside funeral service will be held at New Bethel Cemetery, 4202 Attala Rd 4213, Sallis, MS at 2:00 p.m. on May 29, 2020. However, due to the current state of affairs a private service is scheduled for immediate family only.

I'm at a lost for words! I have been trying to contact my brother for the last couple of years and my search has led me here! I'm in tears as Ed was like a brother to me. We served together in the Navy and both retired together. I will miss his deep conversations and wisdom. I will keep his family in our prayers, but this one hurts! Love you bro! - Grigley

My sincere condolences and prayers to the family. I (Althea) worked with Ed for several years at the FBI in Washington DC. Extremely conservative, well respected no nonsense gentleman. I will missed the occasional calls and emails. Rest in peace Ed!

My thoughts and prayers are with Ed's family and others who loved him. Ed and I (an Air Force veteran) would joke about retiring to the the Old Soldiers home on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I imagine we would have had a lot of Marine and Army jokes. What a hilarious, kind, and decent person you were. Blessings to those who enjoyed Ed.
