Edward Charles (EC) was born in Kosciusko, MS on January 23, 1958 to John Henry and Iresse Nickerson. He completed his elementary school education at the former Northside Elementary School, and attended Tipton High School. In 1979, he started his service with the U.S. Army and served his country for thirteen years. He received several honors and citations including Humanitarian Service Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; and Sharpshooter Badge. Edward Charles started working with Ivy Mechanical on November 13, 1995 and was employed with Ivy for approximately 21 years.
Edward Charles met and married his first wife Mary during his time in the service. Later, he fathered his only son and pride and joy, Jarrod, who he deeply loved. On December 2000, he was united in holy matrimony to his wife of 23 years, Grace Nickerson who he adored and cherished with all of his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John H. Nickerson and Iresse N. Collins, and three brothers, Henry Newell (Noonie); Johnny Ray (Jap) and Willie Ray Nickerson. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Grace; son, Jarrod; siblings, James Henry, Albert Henry (Betty) Irea Jean Covington (Will), Joyce Rayford, Margaret Redd (Melvin), Debra L. Elmore, Bonny Martin (Jesse), Bobbie Collins Romero (Jose) and Betty Collins; Barbara Nickerson, sister-in-law; and "bonus brother/cousin" Charles Winters; along with an uncle, James Winters; and three aunts, Ethel Hardy (Jock), Sarah, and Inez Winters; and a host of nephews, great nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends that he loved and always had a good joke or smile to share with them. Last but not least, we cannot forget to mention his love for his 3 best canine friends ever; Rocky, Trooper, and Sarge.
Edward Charles' generous spirit made you feel right at home as he served up his delicious cabbages. His jokes had everyone laughing and cracking up. His smile, which lit up the room, made you feel like you were his best friend. Doing what he does best, smiling and having a good time. Edward Charles departed this life on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
