Today, we celebrate the homegoing of a very special servant, Deacon L.A. Brister. His life's work spread from his family, to his friends and his church. As a member of the church, his testimony was always constructive and faithful. His eighty four life journey began on June 13, 1935 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. L.A. was born to the late James Albert and Maud Brister. He was the third child of ten siblings.

He began to develop his intellectual abilities in the Kosciusko School District.

L.A. met the love of his life Otterie Isadore Marks and in 1967 they moved to New York. He was employed as a mechanic and was also a delivery driver until he retired. After retiring he moved back to Baton Rouge.

After moving back to Baton Rouge he united with the New Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor David Williams. He served faithfully as a Deacon and he always had a jubilant spirit even when he wasn't feeling well.

Deacon Brister was a loving man who had a giving heart. he love to shop, look good and cook. One of the greatest joys of his life was spending time with his family and friends.

On Tuesday, October 22nd, he was called from labor to reward to be with the Lord. He fought the good fight, he has finished the race and kept the faith. There is reserved for him the crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous Judge, will give him on that day.

He, was preceded in death by his parents, James and Maud Brister, his wife Otterie, five siblings, Robert Dodd Brister, Hattie Brister McMiller, Billy Brister, Katie Mae Winters and Ezell Brister.

Deacon L.A. Brister leaves to cherish a legacy of love six sons: Freddie Marks, David Marks (Eva), Michael Marks (Berniece), Bernard Marks (Sarah), Mark Marks (Tangel), Lennox Brister (Darlene), Lewis W. Roberson (Ann); six daughters: Joyce Majors (Glenn), Patricia Carter (Gene), Rhonda Lewis (Terrell), Denise McCoy (Brian), Tammy Dixon (Tyrone); Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren; five siblings: Bernice Brister, Billy Brister, Howard Harris (Meridian, MS), Silas Brister (Detroit, MI), Dorothy Brister (St. Louis Missouri); family, friends and the New Mount Zion Church Family. Mr. LA Brister passed away Tuesday 10/22/2019 in Baton Rouge, LA.
