Cornelius Hawthorne was born on April 13, 1946 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to the parents of William Taft and Christine Harris Hawthorne, who preceded him in death.
He attended public school in Attala County, Kosciusko, Mississippi. He left Mississippi sometime during the 60's and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He would eventually receive his GED or high school diploma.
During the early years in Milwaukee, he worked as a Journey Machinist. He seemed to be proud of that job because he talked about making parts that would later be used on Apollo 8 Space Mission or Spacecrafts. He would later become a self-employed business owner. During this time, he owned and operated a restaurant, fish market, and tavern known as Stable's Lounge, located at 2305 West Capitol Drive. Later, he ventured into the fencing business. He started Stable Fence Installation, where he installed chain link, wood, and ornamental fences. It was and is now a family owned and operated business. He was active in the business until February 12, 2007.
He suffered a massive stroke which left him paralyzed on the right side.
He resided at the Birchwood Rehabilitation Center in Milwaukee for several years. He later moved back to Mississippi. He resided at the Trend Health and Rehabilitation Center until he got sick.
He was later taken to Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS where he passed on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 5:39 p.m.
He married Grace Hood on April 29, 1983 and to this union four sons were born.
Cornelius loved to go fishing more than anything else. He would catch so many catfish. On one occasion, he had caught 100 catfish during that day. No Joke!
His favorite singer was Sam Cooke. There wasn't anyone who could sing better than this man to Neil.
He was preceded in death by Elizabeth Peeler, Murial Lee Hawthorne, Joe Louis Hawthorne, Ruthie Burnside, Minnie Samuels, and Shirley Frizell.
He leaves to cherish his memories eight children: Jennifer (Brian) Bender, Dallas, TX; Christopher (Tione) Hawthorne, Milwaukee, WI; Nathaniel Hudson, Milwaukee, WI; Latoya Hood, Clinton, MS; Corneil (Shoney) Royce; Corey & Jeremy Hawthorne, Milwaukee, WI. He leaves behind seven brothers and sister: Earlin (Fred) Peeler, Chicago, IL; Birdestine Brantley, Milwaukee, WI; Lou Bertha Estes, William Hawthorne, Taft Hawthorne, Jr., Vera Hawthorne, and James Hawthorne all of Kosciusko, MS. He also leaves eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One sister-in-law, Laurie Hawthorne; two brothers-in-law Brooker T. Roby, Carl Frizell, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Special "thanks" go to Taft Hawthorne, Jr., and James Hawthorne. They transported him to and from the nursing home in Carthage, MS they cared for him and visited him so often. They enjoyed "cookouts" whenever possible. Thanks everyone who played a part on this program today. Grace
