On Saturday, October 1, 2022, Christine Griffin Simmons passed away peacefully. She was seventy-nine years old. Christine was a compassionate spirit whose passion was caring for others.
Christine was the youngest child born to the late Lent and Lula Griffin on October 28, 1942, in the Dossville Community. She committed her life to Christ at an early age and joined Delydia Hill MB Church.
She received her education at Conway High School; later renamed Thomastown Attendance Center.
On November 16, 1960, she united with her love, Andrew James Simmons, and to this union they were blessed with five children, James Earl, Phil, Rachel Gail, Sherry Elizabeth, and Bobby Ray Simmons. She spent her years working at John Jess Apparel and retired from Choctaw Manufactory Enterprises with many years of service. Her hands were rarely still. Her later years were spent being a caregiver to the elderly, and it suited her servant heart.
Upon marriage, she joined New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church to continue her Christian journey. She and her husband raised their children with love and devotion and taught them the importance of Faith and Family. She was an active member of the Motherboard and a soloist. While completing God's work at NJMBC, she and her husband initiated the Annual Family Revival raising money to benefit the church's needs. This is still held in their honor each year. She remained a faithful member until her health declined.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Andrew James, two grandchildren: Christopher Hughes, Jr. and Harvey Gene Ricks III (Yuke) and eleven siblings: Obie Griffin, Alvin Griffin, Cleotha Griffin, Lenton Griffin, Byron Griffin, Lula Pearl Jamison, Curtis Griffin, Lawrence Griffin, Mary Lee Harris, Catherine McGary, and Gertrude Leflore.
Left to cherish memories are her five children: James Simmons (Vanessa), Phil Simmons (Debra), Sherry Ricks (Harvey) all of Carthage, MS; Rachel Porter (Patrick), of Birmingham, AL. Also, Bobby Simmons (Angela) of Orlando, FL, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren; sister, Mathis Griffin Thomas of Milwaukee Wisconsin, brother Myron Truss (Thelma) of Dossville, MS and brother in-law Willie Earl Simmons of Detroit Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered by the love she gave, her warm spirit, and her beautiful smile. Her family grieves her loss, but they take comfort knowing that she and Andrew James are united again.
