Milton L. Burt. Sr and Gladys C. Burt welcomed the last of their three boys. Carl on May 23, 1948 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. He enjoyed being the "baby" for three years until the entrance of his twin sisters. Janice and Joyce, whom he adored.
Carl was the shyest of his siblings but grew into a outgoing young man that was voted friendliest in Class by his senior classmates. He received his early education at Central Mississippi College. Sam Young Training School which was later renamed as Tipton Street Elementary. He graduated in 1967 from Tipton Street High School. He attended Jackson State (College) University where he was a member of the Business club and received his bachelor's degree, in Business Administration. Upon graduation from college, he moved to Chicago with his baby sister, Joyce and began his career as the manager of a Church's Chicken. He also partnered with a friend in the operation of Carl and Mel's Liquors in Chicago. He served as the Assistant Purchasing Agent for Gary Community School System and, after retirement, worked for Host Marriott at O'Hare Airport.
As a proud Tipton Street Bobcat, Carl worked tirelessly with the Chicago Chapter of the Bobcat organization hosting and raising funds for Chapter events.
Always a gentleman, Carl had a quiet, unassuming demeanor and a sweet, gentle spirit. His sense of humor is legendary among friends and family. His family enjoyed laughing with him and being entertained by his witty one-liners. Believing in family first, he was always generous and supportive, even sometimes sharing his casino winnings. Although he enjoyed drawing, he prided himself in his culinary skills, especially his five-cheese mac and cheese and his black-eyed pea casserole.
While living in Chicago, Carl met and married Gail Clay (deceased), gaining two sons Lamont and Craig Clay. He and Gail would later be blessed with two girls. Carla and Nakia Burt, to complete their family. Carl was known for his bragging about his girls' accomplishments and trips and could be found flashing their pictures to everyone he met. His heart and his photo album overflowed with the birth of each of his grandchildren, LaKeisha, LaQuanna, Craig Jr., Greg Jr., and Skylar.
Carl was baptized as a child by the Reverend B. F. Harper at Wesley United Methodist Church. He reunited with his home church when he returned to Kosciusko and served on the Usher Board and Men's Choir. Upon returning to Kosciusko, he met and married Debborah Stewart in 2014. This union furthered enlarged his family with the inclusion of her children: Dorothea "Zuni", James, and Robert Macon.
