MR. JULIAN M. BOWIE, SR. - AGE 83- Of Dalton, Georgia passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020. He was born on March 6, 1937 to the late Julian Bowie and Ruth Taylor Bowie. He was preceded by his brothers, David Bowie and John Henry Bowie and grandson, James Andrew Cooper. In 1965, he was the first black member of the National Guard and the American Legion Dalton Post. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and the Air Force. Then was later employed at Emperial Carpets of Cartersville, Georgia, and later employed at Shelby Peeples at Crystal Products for over thirty years and then retired. He was the Entrepreneur of Onyx Carpets. He was a former member of Liberty Baptist Church and he attended Mount Ridge Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Janie L. Wilburn Satterwhite Bowie; two daughters, Francena Lewis and Bernadette Bowie (Dennis) Whatley; son, Julian M. Bowie, Jr.; the Lord also had him to raise a special young lady, Bridgette Hill of Dalton, Georgia; three loving goddaughters, Sharon Whitehead of Warner Robins, GA, LaDonna Nichols of New Orleans, Louisiana, Shawnyell Boyd of Brooklyn, New York; sisters, Maggie Sprowl, Maryhill Smith, Ann (Reuben) Suttles, and Sheryl Ensley; sister-in-law, Renee Bowie; brother, Robert (Josefina) Bowie all of Dalton, GA; aunt, Liza Jean Davis of Michigan; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives; special friends, Bernard Betton, Dony Suttles, Forrest Starks, Lawrence Griffin and other friends.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. at Cross Pointe Church, 2681 Underwood St. Dalton, GA 30721, in the parking lot with Dr. Jerry Jones as Eulogist. His remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Friday after 12:00 noon. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, November 13, 2020 from 6:00-7:30 P. M. Interment will be at West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, Georgia
