On July 12, 1966, Donny was born in LaGrange, Georgia to young parents who were unable to care for him. He was a courageous little boy who was placed in foster care. His plight of being shifted from home to home was a life that he endured until he was around eleven years old. The prayers of the late Joda and Jeanette Reeves were answered when God blessed them with the opportunity to become parents. Through adoption, Donny became their son and the joy of their lives. They moved him to Atlanta and raised him in a wholesome Christian environment, often turning to God for direction on raising a child who had faced so many challenges.
Donny flourished in his new life. He was enrolled in the Atlanta School System where he adapted quickly and was an enthusiastic student. He made friends in his new neighborhood and at school. As a young adult, he was admired for his vibrant personality and his keen sense of humor, never meeting a stranger. He had a love for fashion with a style that complemented his personality. Donny was a kind and sociable person who enjoyed being the life of the party.
After graduating from Archer High School, Donny remained in Atlanta and found work at a number of businesses over the years. The majority of his employment years were spent at the Coca Cola Company and Chatman & Sanders Law Firm.
Donny’s parents instilled in him the meaning and consequences of having a relationship with God. He was passionate about reading the Bible. Being gifted with a beautiful voice, he served in the Music Ministry of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School and Bible Study at New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Donny truly loved his mother and father. He was grateful to God for their love and nurturing. He grew even closer to his mother after losing his father while still in high school. They were mother, son and friends. When her health began to decline, he became her devoted caregiver.
Donny peacefully passed away on February 2, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joda and Jeanette Reeves. He will be missed by all who loved him including his uncle, Clarence Bonds (Liz), his aunts, Ida Mae Bonds and Wilma Bonds and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 1:00 P. M. at the Willis Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Jones officiating. Interment at West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, Georgia.
When Donnie was in the Randolph Choir at Springfield, he was one of my babies. Mother Reeves entrusted him to me whenever we had a traveling engagement and even when we didn't, he would spend time at my house. Rest in God, my child, rest on. Rev. A C Murphy
