MS. BETTY JO AIKEN – Age 88, of Dalton, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. She was born on April 18, 1933 to the late Depluma Mae Aiken Walker and L. P. Shropshire in LaFayette, Georgia. She was a Retired Teacher from the Roberta, Georgia, Murray County, and Walker County, Georgia School Systems. Ms. Betty was a faithful member of Prospect Baptist Church and a Bible Study Instructor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church’s “Gray Care” both of LaFayette, GA. She was actively involved in various ministries and served as a Sunday School Teacher at New Hope Baptist Church in Dalton, GA. She was the honored recipient of the Bishop C. H. Ellison Award and was a lifelong member of the Woman’s Community Club.
Ms. Betty was well known and loved by all people of the Northwest Georgia area and she claimed to be related to each and every one of us. She did not have a family tree but had a family forest. During her life she traveled many places in and out of our country. Her knowledge of family and friends, the Bible, and world history was astounding. She will be missed dearly for she supported others and a wonderful friend to many.
Homegoing Celebration will be Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 3:00 P. M. at the Chapel of Willis Funeral Home with Rev. Tyrus Chislom, officiating. Interment, West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, Georgia.
Ms Betty was a supporter and cheerleader for others. We can all learn to do for others from her actions.
Much has been said of Betty Aiken and all of it is true. Betty was a unique person that everyone enjoyed keeping company with. Who will take her place I dont know, because her footprints will be hard to fill. I never heard anyone say a harsh word about Betty Aiken. She will truly be missed. I hate to hear the passing of Mrs. Betty Aiken. She will be truly missed. A sweet, smart, beautiful woman inside & out.
