By 1930 the family moved to Clay County. He stayed in the Vashti/Buffalo Springs area until the 1970s when they moved to Bowie. After Iva passed away in 2015, he moved to Iowa Park to be closer to family. He regularly went to his great-grandsons’ baseball games and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

In 1940, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp building roads in New Mexico, California, and Oregon while sending money back to his parents. He continued working as an automobile mechanic. He spent the majority of his adult life working various jobs in the oil field, all while farming and raising cattle in Clay County.

He married Iva Foreman on Aug 9, 1941. They had two children, LaWana who married Don Moore, and Ricky, who married Patsy (Frie). He had four grandchildren: Stacy and her husband Harry Rice, Sheri and her husband Gilbert Stouard, Terri and her husband Dustin, and Cody and his wife Samantha.
