Funeral services will be Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., Strawbridge M.B. Church, Strawbridge Road, Utica, MS 39175 with burial Strawbridge Church Cemetery, Utica, MS.
Justine Powell was born on June 10, 1954 to the late Willie T. Broome, Sr. and Valerie Williams-Broome.
A native of Utica, Mississippi, Justine attended Hinds Agricultural High School where she graduated in 1973.
Justine is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Powell, her parents, Willie T. Broome, Sr. and Valerie Willliams-Broome, her siblings: Willie T. Broome, Jr. Johnny Lee Broome, Carl Broome, Sr., Lucille “Lucy” Brown, Ella Dee Brown, and a nephew, Jaboreon Broome.
In pursuing her professional career, she dedicated 30+ years to Xerox Document Company where she retired in 2010. She also enjoyed working at The Atlanta Superdone where she encountered many celebrities and was so joyful to share those meaningful memories with her family.
Inspired to grow her education, Justine obtained her degree in Criminal Justice from Hinds Community College in 2014. She remained dedicated to empowering criminal justice reform.
At a young age, Justine accepted Christ and served in the church as an active member having been a member of Strawbridge Missionary Baptist Church and more recently, Church of Christ while living a meaningful life until her peaceful transition.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a Niece, Pamela Broome, whom she raised as her own. Her siblings, Gladys Jones of Killeen, TX., Laurie Holmes of Harvey, LA., Charman Broome, Sr. (Helen) and Ester Davis both of New Orleans, LA., Cassandra Broome of Utica, MS., Jerome Broome of Washington and a host of special nieces, nephews, and friends.
