A Life of Purpose:
Celebrating Faith, Love, and Legacy
A Life Begun: The Dawn of a Servant's Journey
On May 29, 1941, in the quiet town of Eclectic, Alabama, the world was blessed with the birth of Reverend Dr. G.E. Robinson, Sr. Born to the late Reverend Dr. D.E. and Fannie Mae Robinson, his arrival marked the beginning of a life filled with purpose, love, and an unwavering devotion to faith. From the very start, Reverend Robinson was nurtured in an environment of grace and guidance, building a foundation that would shape the extraordinary path he would walk throughout his life.
Called Home: A Journey Completed
As the sun rose on Friday, December 27, 2024, Reverend Dr. G.E. Robinson, Sr. answered the Master’s call to eternal rest. At 6:07 a.m., surrounded by his loving family at Riverview Regional Medical Center, his earthly journey came to a close. This final chapter marked the completion of a life lived with remarkable faith, profound love, and selfless service.
A Legacy of Love: A Union to Remember
For 44 beautiful years, Reverend Robinson shared his life with the late Mrs. Betty Dean Robinson. Their union was a sanctuary of love, devotion, and partnership. Together, they raised four children, each a reflection of their faith and values. Their marriage was a testament to the power of love and the grace of God, a legacy that will live on through their family for generations to come.
Sowing Seeds of Faith: A Ministry Flourished
Reverend Robinson’s life was one of unyielding dedication to God’s work. A graduate of Laurel High School in Alexander City, Alabama, he answered the divine call to ministry and was ordained on the fourth Sunday of October 1962. From that day forward, he devoted himself to shepherding God’s people with unwavering faith and compassion.
Over the years, he pastored several congregations, including Early Rose Baptist Church in Alexander City, Mount Andrews Baptist Church in Tuskegee, Bethel Baptist Church in Ashland, and Galilee Baptist Church in Gadsden, where he began serving in 1973 and continued faithfully until his retirement in July 2024.
His thirst for knowledge and theological excellence led him to earn multiple degrees from Birmingham Bible College in Birmingham, Alabama: a Doctor of Divinity Degree on May 16, 1991; a Bachelor of Arts Degree on May 19, 1983; and both a Bible Diploma and Bible Certificate on May 19, 1983. In recognition of his leadership and service, he was appointed to the Etowah County Board of Equalization on October 21, 1983, by Governor George C. Wallace.
For Reverend Robinson, ministry was not merely a profession; it was his life’s purpose. He faithfully upheld the doctrines of the church, teaching and living the Holy Scriptures with integrity and devotion.
Faithful Servant: "Well Done, Thy Good and Faithful Servant"
Reverend Robinson’s leadership extended beyond the pulpit. He served as President Emeritus of the Northeast District State Convention, Vice Moderator of the Wills Creek District Missionary Baptist Association, and Charter Trustee of Selma University. His appointment to the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc.’s Re-Organization Committee reflected his commitment to advancing the church's mission.
His objective as a pastor was simple yet profound: to guide, teach, and uplift others through God’s word. This he did with humility and grace, leaving an indelible impact on all who were blessed to know him.
Tears of Farewell: Honoring Those Who Preceded Him
Reverend Robinson was welcomed into eternal glory by his wife, Betty Dean Robinson; his son, Gregory Robinson; his parents, Reverend Dr. D.E. and Fannie Mae Robinson; and his siblings, James Robinson, Zeporah Robinson Gilbert, and David E. Robinson, Jr. Their heavenly reunion is a testament to the eternal bond of family and faith.
Joyful Memories: A Life Celebrated
Reverend Dr. G.E. Robinson, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory his children: Brenda Robinson Card, Reverend Grover L. (Annie) Robinson, and Reverend Grady E. (Melissa) Robinson, Jr., all of Gadsden, AL; his special friend, Geraldine Bradford; and his special sons, Deacon Melvin Whisenant and James (Donna) Hedgspeth, who held unique places in his heart.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Tawana (Blake) Hall, Ebony Coats, Erikka Card, Gregory W. Robinson, Dantez O. Robinson, Loreal D. Robinson, Shemikka Jones, Misty Glass Blount, Johnathan Palmore, Michael Palmore, Jessica Owens, and Jalysa Owens; and great-grandchildren: DeBron Card, Taylor Higgins, JaKori Johns, Izzy May, Xuri May, Mercedes Robinson, Lyric Robinson, Lakyn Robinson, Aujenne Guice, Aziyah Glass, Kiara Akles, and a host of adopted grandchildren.

I will forever cherish the memories of Rev. G.E. Robinson. We would often frequent their home as we sang praises to God with our gospel group, Heaven's Harmonies in which his daughter, Brenda is a member along with our cousins. We would also follow Rev. Robinson to sing when he would go to different cities to preach. My son, Te'Khoriyen was drummer at Galilee Baptist for many years and Rev. Robinson would often tell me that there was something special about him and that he was a very nice and respectful young man. That meant a lot to me. Our prayers and condolences are extended to the Robinson's family. Renita Harrell Davis and family
Rev. Robinson and his family was a part of our family for as long as I can remember. As young women, our gospel group, "Heaven's Harmonies" would follow him to different church functions in and out of the city of Gadsden to sing or just to hang out together. I will always cherish the memories! May God comfort the hearts of his family and church family as well as everyone he made an impact in their lives. Rest in the arms of Jesus, Rev. Robinson!
