Ms. Wanda Chatman, 65, of Collinsville, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024. She is survived by her loving family.
Obituary
Wanda Jean Thomas Chatman, lovingly known as “Geechie”, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, at the age of 65. Born on September 13, 1959, in Attalla, Alabama, she lived a life full of love, generosity, and dedication to her family and community.
Wanda Jean attended Gadsden State Community College before proudly serving her country in the U.S. Army. She later found her true calling in caregiving, working for over 20 years at Collinsville Nursing Home, where she was cherished by both staff and patients for her kind heart and unwavering dedication.
Known for her generous spirit, Wanda Jean never judged others and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dogs, and enjoyed hobbies such as collecting knickknacks, completing puzzles, cooking and baking for loved ones, and sewing her own clothing. She also loved traveling with her family, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bonita Stephens Thomas and Howard Thomas, as well as her brother, Howard Thomas.
Wanda Jean is survived by her loving children: Christopher John Chatman of Phoenix, Arizona; Daryl James Chatman (Mailyn) of Dallas, Texas; and Brischelle Bonita Chatman of Attalla, Alabama; and her beloved grandchildren, D’yana Simpson, Kaydance Wright, and Ava Larry.
She is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Theresa Thomas Hill, Phyllis Ledford, Walter Thomas, Zatchery Thomas (Brenda), and Alexis Thomas, along with her sister-in-law, Denise. Wanda Jean will be deeply missed by her companion, Robert May.
Wanda Jean’s legacy of kindness and compassion will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a life filled with love, laughter, and generosity, and her memory will be cherished always.

Public viewing will be Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 10am-2pm.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the West Gadsden Funeral Home (Betty D. Robinson Chapel) at 2:00pm.
