Mrs. Martha Jean Hastings,69, of Fort Payne, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022.

Mrs. Martha Jean Hastings was born on January 25, 1953 to Mr. Joe Underwood & Mrs. Lula McElrath. She heard the Master’s call and answered His call on May 12, 2022. She was educated in the Dekalb School System and was a graduate of Dekalb High School in 1970. She loved spending time with her grandkids, shopping, traveling, car rides, and she loved going to church, dancing (shaking a leg) and facebook. She was preceded in death by: Her mother, Lula Mae McElrath; husband, Joe Hastings; brothers, Lewis McElrath and Anthony Moore; sister, Sadie Dennis She leaves to cherish beautiful memories to: Daughters, Shelly Underwood and Roma Shalula McElrath; Sons, Troy McElrath and Nick (Elizabeth) McElrath; Sister, Edna McElrath; Brothers, Joseph (Peggy) McElrath and Mark McElrath; Grandkids, Kaity Hughes, Maryeah McElrath Alonzo (Derek) , Arisian McElrath, Mataj McElrath, Kyvei Prater, Jiyson Snider, Hevaunly Prater, and Jeanlyn Snider; Great-grands, Aeris Alonzo, Sonder Alonzo; Sister-in-law, Patricia McElrath. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Public viewing will be Friday, May 20, 2022 from 5pm-7pm at the Fort Payne Auditorium. Funeral services will be May 21, 2022 at Fort Payne Auditorium at 2:00pm Eulogist: pastor Ralph Jelks. Interment: Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. My mother-in-law loved me as one of her own. She was the sweetest person I have ever met. She was also one of the strongest women I know. She loved her family and God and was a true servant. She will definitely be remembered for her kind, sweet spirit and her cooking. She loved to cook. I miss her every day.
