Obituary For Mattie Gray Mackey

The Obituary Mother Mattie Mae Mackey,88,Gadsden was born December 26, 1930 in Lafayette, Alabama to the late Tom Isom and Clyde Harville. At an early age, she acknowledged Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and joined St. Paul Overcoming Church of God under Bishop Alex Allen and was currently under the pastorage of Bishop Walt Higgins. Mother Mackey graduated from Carver High School in 1951 and later graduated from cosmetology school. On July 10, 1949 she was united in holy matrimony to Willie James Mackey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Dianne Jones, and two brothers, Wilson Gray and Ortway Evans.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving, devoted husband of 70 years, Willie James

Mackey; two daughters, Barbara (Clarence) Harris of Oxford, NC, and Shella (Willie) Simmons of Glencoe, AL; four sons, Robert (Renee) Mackey of Durham, NC, James (Sheila) Mackey of Macon, GA, Larry Mackey of Gadsden, AL, and Darnell (Bernadette) Mackey of Gadsden, AL; 13 grandchildren, LaChone (Glenn) Jeffcoat, Done Mackey, Troy Mackey, Rashad Simmons, Kevin Mackey, Candace (Corey) Harris, Latia Harris, Neidra Simmons, Deidra (Charod) Dodd, Chris Mackey, Adrian Cherry, Katrice (Dexter) Perry, Crystal Mackey; 11 Great Grands, LaToya Mackey, Kelley Kinnitt, Zakaious Mackey, Adrianna Cherry, Retonio (RJ) Hamilton, Dartavius (DJ) Mackey, Mason Harris, Jayceon Mackey, Braylon Harris, Zoey Perry, and Bryce Perry; 4 Great Great Grands, Triston McCord, Keliyah Mackey, Kaliyah and Jordan Jackson; Two Sisters, Vernia Mae Ray and Mary Lonie Jackson; One Brother, Lonzie Gray; Special Nephew,Frank James; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life will 12 Noon Saturday October 5th, 2019 At the St. Paul Overcoming Church of God. Burial to follow in Lincoln Hill Memorial Park. Bishop Walt Higgins Officiating. Public Visistation will on Friday October 4Th, 2019 at the Funeral Home Chapel 11-7 With Family hour from 5-6:30 P.M. West Gadsden Funeral Home, INC. Directs 256-549-0004
