When we were teenagers, I worked with Renea at Sunrise Food Stores (which people always called "the bottom of the hill," a gas station with a drive-through window in the city of Greensboro, on the Union Point Highway. Renea was one of my best co-workers. She played a large part in my coming to know Jesus. If I can say one thing about her, it is that I will be forever grateful to the girl (Renea) who kept inviting the atheist (me) to church, even when I thought there was no point in it, except to honor her great friendship. I never went to church with her, but sometime later, her words of wisdom came back to me during a time when I needed them most (not a direct quote, but something similar): "Carol, look at my life... I'm not a perfect person... you've known me awhile now... I go to church because I need God's help... I need Jesus to help me. No one will judge you there, even if you don't believe like we do. Do I judge you?? Well then no one else will either. Just please do consider it." Those words from Renea, repeated kindly and gently, week to week, literally saved my life. Renea, I thank God for you always, and I hope to see you again someday!
