Obituary For Grady Lewis Lawrence

Mr. Grady Lewis Lawrence, was born on the 31st day of July, in the year of 1947 in Greensboro, Georgia, to the late Cadrie and Mollie Lue Lawrence.

During his childhood, he accepted Christ and became a member of Zion Wrightsville Baptist Church in Greensboro, Georgia.

Grady, received his formal education at Floyd T. Corry School(Greene County School System). After graduating, he enlisted into The United States Army. At the start of his career, Grady earned and advanced in ranks to become a sergeant. As a sergeant, Grady was trained as a Sharp Shooter for The United States Army Special Forces. During his career, he served in the Vietnam War, and later decided that he wanted to change his career path. After returning home, Grady transitioned from the military, to the workforce. He started a new career at Novelis, (formally Keystone and Alcan, Manufacturing Company) in the maintenance department. After performing and exceeding the company’s expectations, he earned the position of Lead Maintenance, and worked for the company for more than thirty years until he retired.

In 1983, Grady and Alice were married and joined their families together to become one. Grady was always there to offer his love, support, and encouragement to his family. He was a very humble and loving man, that enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. And yes, he absolutely loved his grandchildren! Some of his hobbies were fishing, creating grills, and playing the guitar. Grady established many relationships, inspired so many people, and shared many amazing stories about his experiences while serving in the Army.

Grady, has been rejoined with his parents, daughter (Pamela), brothers (Willie Wright, Joe B. Lawrence, Marvin Lawrence, and Nathaniel Lawrence), and sister (Irene Lawrence). He will be truly missed, but his legacy of love will remain eternal in our hearts to everyone that knew him. Grady entered into rest on June 23, 2024 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia.

Grady’s loving spirit and memories are carried on by his wife, Alice, children, Tracy (Teresita), Kelvin (Kryrissha), DeLewis (Melissa), Jonathan, and Christopher (Toby), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, and family.

In addition to his family, his memories will be forever cherished by his friends, Rufus Robbins, Deon Robbins, Jerome Hall, and Darrell Peaks.

-Some called him “Shady Grady”, yet his grandchildren called him, “Papa”!
