George E Thornton was born November 12, 1948 in White Plains, Ga to the late Paul and Bessie Lewis Thornton. He was the third child of seven. He attended Greene County Public Schools. After graduation, he joined the Navy. After 2 years of serving his country, he moved to Atlanta, Ga. where he worked in construction. He moved back to his home in White Plains, Georgia where he continued to be employed until he retired from Walmart.
George was an advert Church goer. he served as a Deacon then he was called to the Ministry. Anyone who knew him know that he never met a stranger. he was as friendly as they come. He had many hobbies and talents. he sang his heart out in a group that consisted of his uncle and his brothers.
George is survived by his wife, Emma Thornton, and 6 children, Lakesha Thornton of Douglasville, GA, Melanie Miller of White Plains, GA, Kevin Miller (Wanda) of White Plains, GA, Jeri Miller of White Plains, GA, Kimia Flournoy (Kareem) of Atlanta, GA and Jacqueline Baresi-Williams (Antonio) of Smyrna, GA. He has 6 siblings: JC Thornton (preceded in death), Addie Bowden (Robert) of Atlanta, GA, Pauline Heath of Baltimore, MD, Charlie Thornton of White Plains, GA, Berenza McElderry (Steve) of Decatur, GA, and Lorenzo Thornton of Atlanta, GA., grandsons, Mr. Damon' Weaver of White Plains, GA., Quintavius R. Thornton and granddaughter Aniya D. Thornton of Douglasville, GA. He leaves a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins who dearly loved and cherished him. George departed the world on december 20, 2022 and gone to live with his God.
Services will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 from Second Baptist Church in White Plains, GA at 1pm.
