Mary C. Watkins was born April 12, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia to Willie Moss, Sr. and Christine L. Cowings Moss. Mary’s parents preceded her in death.

Mary was called to home early evening on April 26, 2019 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mary received her early education in the Atlanta, Georgia public schools system. After graduating from high school, she decided to further her education by attending Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia then transferred to Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. This move was pivotal for Mary. Not only, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, but she would meet her future husband, Warren R. Watkins, Jr.

In 1968, she married Warren R. Watkins, Jr. and moved to Kansas City, Missouri. From this union came two beautiful daughters, Christie Jewell Watkins and Warrena’ Roxana Watkins. She and Warren remained loving parents to their children after the marriage ended and instilled an entrepreneurial, business mindset in them.

Mary later met a life-long companion, Roy L. Milam, who preceded her in death. Their bond and friendship spanned over 30 years. Together, they would establish guiding principles for her two daughters and his son, Michael L. Milam. They created and shared wonderful memories.

Early on, Mary was employed as the Assistant Office Manager at Watkins Brothers Memorial Chapel, and later pursued a career as the Office/HR Manager for Mabin Construction Company. Steadily progressing in the construction industry, Mary became a Compliance Officer at Total Risk Management, Inc. (Clarkson Construction Company) where she worked for 15 years until her retirement in 2016.

Mary was very principled and exhibited a high moral character. She believed in always being on time, having a great work ethic and setting a good example for her daughters. Mary was also an avid decorator and dreamed of becoming an interior designer. Her house was her showpiece, impeccably decorated with that special touch of class. Adding to her uniqueness, Mary was a phenomenal cook, local fashion show model, movie buff and a shopper extraordinaire. One of her favorite things to do was to take cruises. Mary loved to travel and took many vacations with her family. She discovered the world through travel and visited Hawaii, Alaska, several islands in the Caribbean and other cities within the US. In addition, she was an active member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and participated in the organization for 10 years with her daughters.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two lovely daughters, Christie Jewell Watkins-Henry (Tory) of Wylie, TX; Warrena’ Roxana Watkins of Grandview, MO; grandson, London G. Henry of Wylie, TX; brother, Willie J. Moss, Jr. (Shirley) and sister, Diane Moss Tutt of College Park, GA; sister-in-law, Marion O. Watkins of Kansas City, MO; nieces, Kristina M. Tutt, Marjorie Moss Heard both of College Park, GA; Monica Moss Rooks (Keith) of Stone Mountain, GA; nephews, Jason E. Tutt of College Park, GA, Warren Whitney Watkins of Kansas City, MO; three great nieces, two great nephews; Michael L. Milam of Kansas City, MO and a host of cousins, family and friends.

Graveside Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, Georgia 30349.
