On March 18, 2023, Nequila Shanta Johnson gained her wings at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 39. She was born in Davidson County, Tennessee to the parents of Kenneth and Sherry Thomas. .

Nequila leaves to cherish her loving memories her husband Cory Johnson; daughter Kori Johnson; step-children, Malachi Johnson and Aniyah Johnson; parents, Kenneth and Sherry Thomas; sister, Sheena Thomas; grandfathers, Sam Starnes, Sr, Larry Ennis, and Vernon Lee Bowling; father-in-law, Bobby Johnson: uncles, Sam (Deborah) Starnes, Jr and Monte Thomas; aunt, Mary Louise (Donnie) Smith; great uncles, Willie Crutcher and James Baugh; great aunts, Gertrude Pasley, Christine Starnes, and Robbie Roberts; devoted great aunt, Marguerite (William) Sanford; great great aunt, Janie (Molly) Burns; cousins, Samantha (Brian) Fisher, Amanda (Thamarius) Head, Bliss (Dontay) Thomas, Aniyah Bird, Mikko Smith and Donesha Smith; sisters-in-law, LaPrecia (Robert) Cotton, Shannell (Kylan) Thompson, Kateshia Dobbins, Crystal Lee, and Dynicka Lee; brother-in-law, Trell Johnson; devoted best friend Rachel McGill; god-daughter, Mariana Richards; Namesake Nequila (Ne-Ne) Rucker; nephews, Davion Lee and DaKari Mendenhall and a host of relatives and many friends.

Shanta will lie in state on, Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 2 until 6 at the funeral home.

Visitation with family, Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 11:00 until 12:00 at Cummins Street Church of Christ, 511 Cummins Street, with funeral to follow. Brother Nathaniel Grimes, Sr. officiating / eulogist.

Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery, Franklin, Tennessee.

My husband and I had the privilege of working by Shanta's side for several years as a nurse at skyline and then as a nurse practitioner in clinic. Shanta was honest, hard-working, incredibly smart and devoted to those she loved. I'll miss her loyal friendship. Never goodbye, but see you soon across the veil.
