Sunrise. . . Debra (Deb) Watkins Jones was born December 23, 1954, in Forest City, North Carolina to the late R. B. Watkins and Dorothy Simmons Watkins. She grew up in a loving home with seven brothers and sisters and lived in a community with a host of extended family and friends. A Life Well Spent. . . After graduating from East Rutherford High School in 1973, she attended North Carolina Central University and was awarded the Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1977. Debra had quite an accomplished list of positions and achievements in her professional career including and most notably as Program Manager at Bank of America, Consultant at Compu-Ware, and Program Analyst at Central Piedmont Community College. From the union of her marriage to her former spouse, Johnnie Jones Jr., three adored children were born Johnnie (Trey), Amanda, and Jarrad. Debra’s life was always focused on her family and helping others. She had a very quiet spirit and never wanted recognition for her gifts of love. She attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC but always expressed a desire to return home (Forest City, NC) for her final resting place. Even so, her greatest efforts were focused on preparation for her eternal home with the Lord. Sunset . . . After living a beautiful, productive life, Debra entered her eternal rest on Monday, July 11, 2022, at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Angelecia Gay, and her brothers—R. B. Watkins Jr. and Rev. John R. Watkins. Those Who Remain . . . Debra leaves to cherish her life and memories, a devoted daughter, Amanda Jones Funchess (Marcus) and two devoted sons, Johnnie (Trey) Vernard Jones III and Jarrad Michael Jones. Two of the delights of Debra’s life were her grandchildren-- Ethan Samuel Banks and Madison Christine Funchess. In addition, she is survived by a brother, Anelson Watkins (Mary Ellen) of Charlotte, NC and three sisters: Mattie Greene, Emma Brown (Donald), and Ijuana Collier (Dwight) of Charlotte, NC. Further surviving members include a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Service: Monday, July 18, 2022 2:00 p.m. Ulysses D. Miller Funeral Services, Inc.
