Obituary:

Our dearest Marjorie Mercer was born on January 7, 1930, in Statesboro, Georgia, to Robert Reid and Mattie L. Hendrix-Reid.

Marjorie received her education in the Public School System of Statesboro, Georgia. At an early age, she entered into Holy Matrimony with Theodore Mercer Sr. They were blessed by the Lord with two children, Gwendolyn and Theodore Jr. In May 1962, Marjorie and family relocated to Jersey City, New Jersey where she worked as a Dry Cleaner Presser until she retired.

She deeply loved her family and approached life with a “no-nonsense” attitude. She was known for her brutal honesty and directness, whether it was welcomed or not. Her feisty spirit remained with her until her final breath.

In August 2004, Marjorie and her family relocated to Lawrenceville, Georgia, where she resided until she was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Northside Hospital, Lawrenceville, Georgia.

She is preceded on her journey to glory by her parents (Robert and Mattie Reid), loving husband Theodore Mercer Sr., five brothers (Dolan Edward, Floyd Lee, John Lee, Bobby Joe, and Charles Willie), one sister (Carol Renett), and one grandson (Daryll).

She leaves to cherish her memories: a daughter Gwendolyn (Arnett, preceded), a son Theodore Jr. (Ursula), two brothers Roslyn Butler (Christine) of Savannah, GA, Leon Butler of Daytona, Fl; four sisters Priscilla Yancey (Sidney), Lucille Mallard (Lonnie), Elizabeth Knight (James), and Shirley Reid of Geneva, NY; five grandchildren: Kimberly, Tonique (Gregory), Antoine (Marquisha), Theodore L. III, Maricia, and Zamir; eight great grandchildren Jasmine, Jade, Destiny, Jordan, Zaniya, Noah, Zyon, and Gianna. Majorie is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members and friends.
