Rev. Dr. Kathy Ogletree Goodwin,64 of Louisville passed away Monday, August 15, 2002. She was the Pastor of Buechel United Methodist church and Crescent Hill United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband Rev, Alvin R. Goodwin, Sr. mother, Mary Ogletree; children A. Russell Goodwin,II (LaShala) Alexis R. Goodwin and Aaron R. Goodwin; siblings, Carl (Imgard), Bernard and Charles Ogletree (Gloria), Carilyn Lawerence and JoAnne Walker (Perry); 3 grandchildren, Ayden, Lena and Aliyah; and supportive friends, Pamela Character and LaVonda Johnson. Visitation will be from 5:00- until 7:00 P.M. Friday, August 26, 2022 and the celebration of life service will be from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 27, 2022. Both services will be held at East Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 100 Washington Street. with burial to follow at Bethel Baptist Church, 702 Johnstonville Rd. lieu of flowers, donations to the Craig A. Box 697 Barnesville, GA REVEREND DOCTOR KATHY OGLETREE GOODWIN was born April 19, 1958 and was one of nine children to the parents of Mary Lucile Walker Ogletree and the late Melvin Carl Ogletree in Barnesville, GA. Dr. Goodwin was a dynamic preacher; prayer warrior, motivational speaker, workshop leader and spiritual guide. Dr. Goodwin received her early education in Barnesville, Georgia and a Bachelor’s degree from Fort Valley State University, Fort Valley, GA: a Master of Public Administration from Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA and received a Masters of Divinity degree while at the Interdenominational Theological; Center/ Gammon Theological Seminary concentrating in Church Administration and Leadership. Additionally, she obtained her Doctorate of Ministry degree from Ashland Theological Seminary. Ashland , OH. Dr. Goodwin also received a certification in Church Administration from the Institute of Church Administration and Management (ICAM) Atlanta, GA. Dr. Goodwin is also the published author of her book entitled “The Spiritual Disciplines… The practice of the Disciples along the Spiritual Journey of Women in Ministry.” Dr. Goodwin was the first African American female ordained Elder in the Kentucky Conference United Methodist Church (UMC) Dr. Kathy Ogletree Goodwin pastored both Buechel UMC and Crescent Hill UMC in Louisville, KY. Her previous appointments include Muldraugh UMC in Muldraugh, KY, Fourth Avenue UMC in Louisville, KY, Coke Memorial UMC, Louisville, KY, Asbury UMC, Owensboro, KY and Nathaniel Mission as Executive Director in Lexington, KY. She was also the first female president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Coalition. Dr. Goodwin has led workshops and seminars nationally and internationally. She has trained college students in Antigua. West Indies in Administration and Leadership. She traveled to Accra, Ghana, West Africa to organize small groups for training in spirituality and continued Spiritual Formation. She has planned, developed and organized many small groups and workshops for people who sought spiritual maturity. She is the founder and organizer of “KOG Ministries … doing ministry that build the Kingdom of God” a ministry that focuses on the spiritual and professional development of women in ministry celebrating the gift of preaching. She served on the Board of Ordained Ministry and served as chair of the Ethic Local Church Concerns Committee of the Kentucky Conference UMC for two quadrennials and was the chairperson of the Kentucky Conference Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century Design Team. Among her many talents and accolades, Dr. Goodwin was the recipient of numerous recognitions and awards and honored in local/ regional magazines for her stellar work in the community and abroad. She is a life member of the National Council of Negro Women; a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc; served on the Board of Directors of the Center for Interfaith Relations formerly the Cathedral Heritage Foundation and served on the WHAS Crusade for Children’s Gran Review Board and Clergy Advisory Team for several years. A beloved Pastor, mentor, mother, sister, friend, and wife whose legacy will live on through all she has inspired and who loved her. Dr. Goodwin’s legacy will also live on through the hearts of her three adult children: A Russell Goodwin II (LaShala) of Louisville, KY, Alexis Raia Goodwin of Louisville, KY, and Aaron Roderick Goodwin of Nashville, TN her husband Reverend Alvin Russell Goodwin, Sr. of Nashville, TN; her loving and supportive mother Mrs. Mary Walker Ogletree Of Barnesville, GA; her adoring grandchildren Ayden Ra Goodwin, Lena Ma’at Goodwin and Alyiah Ryelle; her magnificent sisters Mrs. Carilyn Ogletree Lawrence of Milner, GA, Mrs. Jo Anne (John Perry Jr.) Walker of Barnesville, GA, Ms. Sherelle (Craig) Ogletree and sisters Marilyn Ogletree and Janice Ogletree who proceeded her in death; three wonderful brothers Deacon Carlvin (Imgard) Ogletree, Mr. Charles (Gloria) Ogletree, and Deacon Bernard Ogletree of Barnesville, GA; her brother THE Reverend Craig Ogletree who proceeded her in death; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close and supportive friends including Lavonda Johnson, Diane Walker-Williams, Pat Mitchell, and Pamela Character.
