Ms. Shannon Monique Knight was born on October 13, 1982 to the late Ms. Gail Gray and the late Leon Knight. At the age of two, her mother passed and she was raised by James and Lillie Dobbins. She and her brother, Erastus, moved to Fayetteville, NC. She was educated in the public schools of North Carolina and graduated from Seventy-First High School in Fayetteville. After high school, she joined the United States Army on June 2, 2001 and served until December 23, 2005. She received an honorable discharge.
After returning home, she attended FTCC Community College for several years. She later found employment at Target as a Sales Clerk and later at Lafayette Ford.
Monique always had a love for Thomaston. Even though she was small when she left, she kept in touch with family with the help of her parents by frequently visiting. She soon moved back home.
With the help of her parents, Monique had a strong foundation in Christ. Earlier in her life she was a member of William Chapel Baptist Church in Springlake, NC. In 1992 the family joined St. Jude Missionary Baptist Church in Hopemills, NC. After returning home, she joined the City of Refuge Church in Thomaston, GA.
Monique was inspirational in growing the church. was a strong advocate in the community for the needs of the people. She was active in the food ministry, drove the van to pick up children, involved in all outreach events, active with the children in Summer Camp and in the church. Her joy was seeing her son actively involved in the church as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved grandmother, Ms. Ruby Lee Walker-Gray, the father that raised her, Mr. James Dobbins, paternal grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Erastus (Edna Mae Horton) Knight, Jr. On October 16, 2023, Monique spirit took flight and went home to eternal rest. She is free of all sickness, sorrow, pain with no more suffering.
She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Mrs. Lillie Dobbins of Fayetteville, NC.; three children, Mr. Nahsir Knight and Mr. Amir Knight both of Fayetteville, NC. and Elias “E.J.” Knight of Thomaston, GA. and one sister, Mrs. Patricia (Michael) Coleman of Chester, SC; three nephews, and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
