Ms. Lillie Bell Johnson was born on September 2, l932, in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia. She was the tenth of twelve children born to the late Mrs. Bessie Mae Traylor Johnson and the late Mr. Brady Brown Johnson. She was educated in the public school of Upson County.
At an early age, she joined the Log Town Bethel Church where she grew up and was taught the word. She was the mother of two sons, David and Nathaniel. To provide for her family, she found employment at Thomaston Mills. She remained at the mill until she reached retirement. She also was employed by Dr. Wayne Dodgen as a housekeeper and care giver for his
children.
After moving to the community of Lincoln Park, she joined the New Lincoln Park AME Church. Her roots always remained at Log Town Bethel Church where she would eventually return.
During her leisure time, she loved watching the Braves Baseball team, cooking, spending time with her family and talking about the old days and in her younger years, she loved watching wrestling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David Lee Johnson and eleven siblings, Sally Annie Johnson, Brady Brown Johnson, Jr., Bessie Mae Johnson Bivins, Andrew Johnson, Charlie Andrew Johnson, Pastor Willie Frank Johnson, Annie Mae Johnson Willis, Lizzie Lou Johnson, Lucille Johnson Lucas, Henry Man Johnson and Lelia Mae Johnson Byrd. On Thursday, October 31, 2024, the Lord called her name. She answered and her spirit took flight and returned to the Heavenly Father.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Mr. Nathaniel “Fig” Johnson of Thomaston, GA; two devoted granddaughters, Mrs. Crystal (Tavares) Stinson of Thomaston, GA and Ms. Takara Shuntae Johnson Allen of Locust Grove, GA; two step-children, Mrs. Elaine (Harry) Atwater of Jonesboro, GA and Mr. Johnnie (Denise) Holston of Thomaston, GA; a host of other step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
