Mrs. Mary Joyce Hobbs Copeland was born on May 6, l940, to the late Mrs. Mary Julia Dubignon Hobbs and the late Mr. John Lee Hobbs in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia. She was educated in the public school of Upson County and attended Collins School.
At an early age, she joined the Fellowship Baptist Church. She enjoyed the preaching and teaching of the word. She sung in the Senior Choir, a member of the Fellowship Women of Worship and was a member of the Mother’s Ministry. She remained faithful until her health began to fail.
Mary Joyce met and fell in love with Mr. Dennis Lee Copeland. They were united in marriage on January 28, l956. To this union, five children were born. To help support her family, she was employed by Martha Mills. She retired in 2002. She and Dennis shared fifty-eight years together until his passing on September 10, 2014.
During her leisure time, she enjoyed going to church, singing, cooking, talking and spending time with family and friends, baby sitting, attending the Senior Center and the Cambridge House both in Thomaston and drinking her Coca Colas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Stanley Lamar Copeland, two sisters, Doris Hobbs and Essie Mae Hobbs and three brothers, Felton Hobbs, T.J. Hobbs and Thomas Hobbs. On Monday, October 28, 2024, the Lord called his daughter’s name. She answered and her spirit took flight and went home to rest.
She leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Ms. Elaine Copeland, Ms. Gwendolyn Copeland, both of Thomaston, GA, Mr. Darryl Copeland of Arlington, TX and Mrs. Stacey (Gregory) Knight of Thomaston, GA; one god-daughter, Mrs. Teresa Thomas Curry of Thomaston, GA; five grandchildren, Tamra Copeland, Kanisha Clark, Darrius Copeland, Kiera Copeland, and Tonio Copeland; seven great-grandchildren, Zahrah Copeland, Kandance Doaty, Kalijah Pittman, Kaliyah Mayes, Jordyn Carthon, Selah Copeland and Shiloh Copeland; four sisters, Mrs. Shirley Cleveland of Wesley Chapel, FL, Mrs. Charlene Thompson of Thomaston, GA, Mrs. Gloria Willis of Shilo, GA and Mrs. Janice (Pastor Fred) Blackmon of Concord, GA; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Louise Copeland of Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and other relatives and friends.
