Obituary For Mrs. Janie Mae Seay Britt

Sis. Janie Mae Seay Britt was born to the late Mrs. Allie Robinson Seay and the late Mr. Walter Seay on March 17, l934, in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia. She was educated in the public schools of Upson County and graduated from Drake High School. She was proud of the fact that she was the Valedictorian of her class.

Janie was a long-time member of the Cedar Grove AME Church. She sang in the choir and served as the church secretary for many years. Janie loved singing, worshipping and praising the Lord. She was a faithful and dedicated member throughout her lifetime. Janie was employed by Carter’s Mills as an inspector of children’s clothes. She was a faithful employee for over 30 years.

In l964, she met Leroy Britt. She captured his heart and they were joined in Holy Matrimony on July 6, l964. To this union, two children were born, Cynthia and Leroy, Jr. They shared 58 years together until his passing on September 14, 2022. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was considered the matriarch of the Seay and Britt families.

Janie was quiet, soft-spoken and possessed a loving and compassionate spirit. When her husband was called into the ministry and begin to pastor, she was the ideal First Lady. She traveled with her husband and supported him in his ministry wherever he was called to pastor. She met many new people and many became lifetime friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and five sisters, Fannie Lue Seay, Johnnie Lue Goggins, Mary Ann Seay, Winnie Drain and Ida Ruth Little; four brothers, Will Seay, Elmo Seay, Edward “Buck” Seay and Walter James Seay. On early Sunday morning, December 15, 2024, the Lord called her home from labor to reward. Her spirit took flight and went home to eternal rest.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two children, Mrs. Cynthia Britt Woodard and Mr. Leroy Britt, Jr. both of Thomaston, GA; two grandchildren, Mr. Zachary Taylor of Thomaston, GA and Ms. Laila Britt of Indianapolis, IN; a special niece, Mrs. Debbie D. Atwater of Thomaston, GA; a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews all who will miss her dearly.
