Obituary For Mrs. Ella Mae Cheeks

Ella Mae Cheeks passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in Thomaston, GA. She is survived by her sister, Lara Castille; her daughter, Melissa Cheeks; and her three grandchildren, Shelton Cheeks, Xavier Nubine, and Rachel Cheeks. She was preceded in death by her son, Shawn Cheeks, her brother, Shelton Daigle, and her husband, James Cheeks.

Ella was born on February 19, 1943, to Christine and Octave Daigle, grew up in Eunice, LA, before moving to Dallas, TX, where she lived for almost thirty years. She later settled in Thomaston, GA, where she resided for the last twenty-eight years of her life. Ella attended Charles Drew High School in Eunice where she was crowned Queen Yamba in 1960 and reigned for a year, a testament to her vibrant spirit. She later attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

A devoted Jehovah's Witness, she cared deeply about her faith and her community, regularly attending the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Thomaston. Ella embraced her independence and pursued a variety of professional jobs, including being an entrepreneur with her husband, James.

Ella had many interests. An avid movie buff, her favorites included Godzilla and she loved a good spaghetti western. Known for her great personal taste, Ella loved decorating her home and creating inviting spaces, expressing her unique sense of style through her elegant and fancy handbags. She enjoyed hosting parties, cooking for her family and friends, and was especially known for her delicious gumbo and lemon meringue pie.

Ella will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
