Mr. Robert L. Myles, Jr. affectionately known as “Speedy” was born May 30, 1933 in Hazelhurst, GA. to the late Robert Myles, Sr. and the late Beatrice Myles. As a child he discovered his love for sports. In his younger days he loved baseball, but when he entered high school, he found his love for track and basketball and truly began to develop his craft. He graduated from Hazlehurst High School in 1952 where he was voted by his classmates “Most Likely To Succeed” and awarded the principal's special “I Dare You” award.
After high school, he attended Morris Brown College (MBC). During his time there he played basketball and ran track. He served as the captain for both teams. He also pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc Alpha Sigma Chapter, serving as Chaplin. There was a break in his collegial experience when he was drafted into the United States Army. He served 2 years during the Korean War, The draft didn't stop him from doing what he loved.
While in the army, he represented his past in basketball and track. He was heavily recruited by the University of Iowa for his athletic abilities, but decided to return to Morris Brown. He graduated from MBC in 1958 with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. He later received his Masters degree in School Administration from Georgia State University. One of his proudest athletics accomplishments and honors was being inducted into the Morris Brown College Hall of Fame for basketball and track.
