Mr. Robert Ernest Jackson, more affectionately known as “Roy,” was born in Thomaston, Upson County, GA to the late Mrs. Lucy Kate Acey Jackson and the late Mr. John Henry Jackson on October 16, 1940. At an early age, he joined the Flint River Baptist Church. Roy was educated in the public schools of Upson County and graduated from Drake High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army on September 26, 1963. He was commended with a National Defense Service Medal and recognized as a Sharpshooter. He received an honorable discharge on September 23, l966. After the completion of his service, he married Ms. Tinye Hodo on November 6, l966. To this union, two daughters were born. To help support his family, he was employed by Ford Motor Company and later by Thomaston Mills. He also attended Flint River Technical School, where he earned a certificate in automotive repair. During his leisure time, Roy enjoyed playing golf, walking, playing cards, working on cars, and spending time with his friends. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Mary Jackson. On Sunday, January 23, 2022, the Lord looked down and saw his son in distress. He whispered his name, he answered and went home to be at rest. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Roy leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Mrs. Tinye Jackson of Thomaston, GA; two children, Mrs. Karen Jackson Smith of College Park, GA and Ms. Melinda Jackson of Smyrna, GA; two granddaughters, Jacquelyn “Hailey” Smith and Shatara Denise Smith both of College Park, GA; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Kate Seay of Thomaston, GA and Mrs. Barnette Green of Atlanta, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law include Mrs. Rosia (Reuben) Holston of Yatesville, GA, Rev. R. L. (Gwen) Hodo of Thomaston, GA, and Ms. Martha Hodo of East Point, GA; a devoted friend, Mr. Leroy Terry of Thomaston, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
