Mr. Horace Lockhart was born on December 30, 1950, to the late Mrs. Jennie Mae Russell Lockhart and Mr. Hollis Lockhart in Butler, Taylor County, Georgia. He attended public school in Taylor County and graduated from R.L. McDougald High School. At an early age, he joined the Antioch Baptist Church.
On March 4, 1970, Horace entered the United States Army. He served until October 25, 1971, and received an honorable discharge. After the service, he found employment with Rite Way Foundation and was a deliverer.
He was the father of four children and a proud grandfather, which was the joy of his life. He was a longtime companion and life partner to Ms. Vashti Bishop for forty-two years.
During his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, dancing, watching wrestling, westerns, cooking, spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren, and being a handy man. He enjoyed fixing almost anything.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Mattie Hammond, Mildred Middlebrooks, Ruby Caldwell, Tina Hamilton, Milton Lockhart and Hollis Lockhart, Jr. On Sunday, October 13, 2024, the Lord called his name. He answered the call and his spirit went home to rest.
He leaves to cherish his memory, four children, Mr. O’Morris Lockhart of Butler, GA, Mr. Patrick (Leslie) Graddick of Thomaston, GA, Mrs. Machell (Marcus) Bishop of Villa Rica, GA and Ms. Mary Clark of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive; three sisters, Minister Susan (Herman) Harris of Thomaston, GA, Mrs. Mary Ward of LaGrange, GA and Ms. Harriett Lockhart of Butler, GA; one brother, Mr. Hilry Lockhart of Thomaston, GA; two brothers-in-law, Mr. George Hamilton of Thomaston, GA and Mr. James Hammond, Sr. of Yatesville, GA; and a very, very devoted companion, Ms. Vashti Bishop of Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces,
