A bundle of joy was delivered to Mrs. Mary L. Ogletree and the now departed Mr. Melvin Ogletree on October 30, 1959, in Barnesville Lamar County. Charles was educated in the Lamar County school system. He confessed to Christ at an early age and joined his family at the East Mount Sinai Baptist Church. While he was in high school, he led the Lamar County Trojans to their first victory over Mary Persons High School. He was able to block a field goal in the last seconds to seal the victory, one of his most proud accomplishments. He graduated with the Lamar County Comprehensive High School class of 1977. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country until his term ended.
Charles was a jack of all trades and I’m sure he mastered them all. He received a guitar as a Christmas gift and developed a love for music. He also took an interest in cosmetology. He will be best remembered for his love of carpentry. Charles was united in holy matrimony to Ms. Gloria Smith on August 14, 1992, in Barnesville Lamar County. Charles and Gloria opened their home to countless children, who was in foster care. Charles also loves to spend countless hours watching the food channel. He would try out the recipes and add his special touch. Charles’s love for music let him to be able to play with some of the best musicians in the Central Georgia Area. He played with 4UTC and Lady Creech & Mainstreet Band just to name a few. A special event was held in honor his late brother, Reverend Craig Ogletree Day. He oversaw lining up the groups who performed.
On January 30, 2024, Charles journeyed to paradise for his last performance to be with his Lord and Savior. Charles will be reunited with his father, sisters Janice Ogletree, Marilyn, and Dr. Kathy Goodwin; brother Reverend Craig A. Ogletree. While his transition saddened our hearts, we know his purpose on earth was fulfilled.
Charles leaves a lifetime of memories in the hearts of his wife, Mrs. Gloria Smith Ogletree of Barnesville; Mother Ms. Mary L. Ogletree of Barnesville, Chantel D. Smith of Barnesville, Traka J.
