Until that day, we find out why, you had to leave without no goodbye…. On Sunday, May 1, 2022, our beloved Bruce, the one who sent his jeans to the dry cleaners to ensure the creases were starched in the Popeye’s chicken connoisseur, the one whose throat would close up at the mere sight of onions, and the one who always smelt darn good., slipped away from us in the wee hours of the morning. While the book of Ecclesiastes reminds us that, “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven; a time to be born and a time to die,” we were not ready for him to leave. This was gut-wrenching! Bruce meant so much to so many, as evidenced by the turnout today to respectfully bid him farewell.
Bruce was a person of tremendous faith. He loved the Lord. He joined The East Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Barnesville, Georgia at an early age. After relocating to Atlanta, he and his family were faithful members of Greater Piney Grove. Bruce attended Lamar County Comprehensive High School and was a graduate of the class of 1978. He began his career at Aldora Mills. For the past 24 years, Bruce was employed at Owens Corning, the world's largest manufacturer of fiberglass composites, as the maintenance coordinator. He oversaw unseasoned technicians and trained them for long-term exposure and knowledge of the plant. He was the most seasoned senior maintenance employee. The plant depended on him and his expertise. He was extremely diligent worker. He took his job seriously and expected noting less from everyone else. Outside of work, he was everyone’s “handyman”. There was nothing he could not do. He was truly a “jack of all trades.” However, it was not” all work and no play. He worked hard; played harder. During his early years, Bruce’s favorite pastime was baseball, He was good at it, He could knock the hell out of baseball. However, once he was introduced to the game of golf by his running buddy, Ron, it was over. The two of them lived for the game. In addition to playing at some of the most elite courses around the state, each year during the Labor Day holiday, they would travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to show off their skills with other golf enthusiasts from around the country. In many ways, golf was like baseball to him. He could also knock the hell out a golf ball. His nephews, Trey and Ashton, called him “Uncle Strong Man.” Brue was also a pool shark. The guys regularly gathered on Thursday nights to shoot a game. His goal was always to outdo Reggie, Mi-Mi- and Rod. Often the mission was accomplished. His adolescent rendezvous at Bush’s Café’ pool room om Mill Street paid off. Fishing was another one of his hobbies. However nothing quite measured up to his love for football. Bruce was a die-hard Atlanta Falcons fan. He was a season ticket holder and member of the Southside Tailgaters fan club. While some had mixed emotions about the recent Matt Ryan trade, Bruce ecstatic, He was not a Matti Ice fan, and he did not bite his tongue when it came to letting you know how he felt. Ask Tasha and Eunice. With each new season, we knew there would be plenty trash talking in group Me. Derrick and Ron held down the amen corner. Bruce always stood his ground, and in the end, there was nothing but love. Bruce was married to the love of his life, Cathy, for twenty -two wonderful years. At the Conservatory of Dance and Fine Arts in Decatur, Georgia owned and operated b Michelle Douglas, they were affectionately know as “MaMa Papa Smurf.” This is where Chelcie and Brittany were introduced to the arts and is what catapulted Brittany into her astounding career as a dancer Baby Paisleigh is following in their footsteps. She, too now attends the Cinservatory. Bruce had some dance moves of his own. Envison the embrace: bruce making his way into Cathy’s arms showing off his infamous “James Brown” footwork. Following their reunion. I am certain he made his way to hid dad, Bunk; mom, Annette and brothers, Larry and stoney.
Left to cherish his beautiful memory are: his five children, Lakethia Lashawn Geiger (Spencer), Shanika Shawaun Sullivan, Chelcie O’Neal Edwards (Joe) Bruce Sullivan, Jr. (Sierra), and Brittany Nicole Sullivan; seven grandchildren,, ZaVion Lamar Za “Nyah Ashunti, Zanique Armoni, Zaeuyah De”Fay, , Zanila Monique, Paisleigh Nicole, and soon to arrive Phallyn Ivy; brothers, Reverend George Sullivan, Jr. (Lula), and Michael A. (Phyllis) Sullivan; sister, Betty A. Sullivan aunt and uncle, Sylvia (Clarence) Lindsey and Melvin (Dorothy) Mack; sister-in-law, Pat Sullivan; mother-in-law; Louise Poole;; significant other, B. Michele Strickland; her son, DeMarcus; daughter, Jasmine; grandchildren, JaKhy and MaKayla; best friend, Ronald Johnson; as week as a host of other relatives and friends. Until that day, we still think of you, the love we shared, the memories too!
