Obituary For Doris Delores Stallings Hammock

Mrs. Doris Delores Stalling Hammock was born on October 11, 1937 to the late Mrs. Ezell Moran Stallings and the late Mr. James Stallings in Culloden, Monroe County, Georgia.

She attended public school in Monroe and Upson County and graduated from Thomaston Training School in May of 1954. At an early age, she joined the Mary Lizzie Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. F.R. Strickland.

After graduating from high school, she entered Fort Valley State College. She graduated from Fort Valley State in May 1958 and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a Minor in Library Science. As an undergraduate student, she joined the AKA Sorority.

After College, she met Mr. Edward Ernest Hammock, The two fell in love and were married on December 21, 1958. To this union one daughter was born, Constance Elaine. They shared forty years until his passing on November 16, 1995.

Mrs. Hammock's first employment began at Crawford County High School from 1958 to 1961. From 1962 until 1963, she was employed at Eureka High School in Taylor County. Mrs. Hammock was eventually employed by the Lamar County School System. From 1964 until 1970, she taught English and French, she served as an assistant librarian and senior advisor at Booker High School. From 1970 to 1975, she was the librarian at Milner Middle School and from 1975 to 1985 at Lamar County Comprehensive High School. Mrs. Hammock's final employment was in the Upson County School System from 1985 until 1990 as Media Specialist. She also served as the GAMA Club Advisor. She did a total of 31 years of service in the education and retired on June 6, 1990. Mrs. Hammock received many awards, certificates and recognitions of her service that are too numerous to mention.

Throughtot Mrs. Hammock's teaching career, she always attended school and perfected her skills. She attended Columbia University in New York, NY and finally completed her Masters Degree from GA State University in 1978 in Library Media. She was active during her teaching career in the local and state professional organizations for teachers.

In addition to her teaching career, she always maintained her active duties in the church. Mrs. Hammock served as the clerk for years at the Mary Lizzie Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. F.R. Strickland and Pastor McArthur Childs. She was actively involved as the Youth Director until her health failed.

Mrs. Hammock was preceded in death by biological father, Mr. James Stallings, her mother, Mrs. Ezell Stallings Reeves and her stepfather, Rev E.B. Reeves. On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, the Lord called her name. She answered and she peacefully went home to eternal rest.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Mrs.Constance Elaine Womble of Thomaston, GA; two children she raised as her own, Ronnesha Chaney of Macon, GA and Ms. Shacree Tuddles of NJ; one stepson, Mr. Stead (Lasonia) Walker of Thomaston, GA; three grandchildren, Riley Hill and TJ Bell both of Macon, GA and Kaiden Tuddles of NJ; three step-grandchildren, Ms. Charmaine Walker and Ms. Nikeria Walker both of Thomaston, GA and Mr. Travon Walker of Jacksonville, PLi; two step-great-grandchildren, Lundon Price and Paris Braswell; a devoted God-daughter and God Son, Mrs. Yolanda Tolbert-Lovett and Mr. Donald Lovett of Covington, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law include, Mrs. Betty Snipes, Mrs. Debra Hammock and Mrs. Linda Hammock all of Thomaston, GA; Mrs. Lucille Gray if Atlanta, GA, Mr. Eugene Hammack of Buffalo,NY and Mr. Charlie Hammock, Jr. of Detroit, MI; one aunt, Mrs. Helen Reeves of Meansville, GA; devoted care givers, Mrs. Nancy Brown and Elder Tracy Marshall; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews, a host of devoted cousins, Roberts Street Neighbors, the Shady Grove Estates Community and a host of students that loved her very much.
