Alex O'Neal was born on December 23, 1942, to Lettie B. Lowry in Barnesville, GA.
He attended Booker High School. At an early age, Alex accepted God as Lord and Savior of his life and became a member of Springhill Baptist Church. Alex had a passion for singing old gospel hymns and praising God. He was ordained as a deacon on April 22, 1973 and a Sunday School Superintendent from 1976- 1994, under the leadership of the late Rev. E.J. O'Neal. He served on several Ministries at the Greater Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.
Alex was well known around Lamar County, never meeting a stranger, including Mr. Lewis Washington his friend of over 40 years and Mr. Walter Phillips his most recent friend. He loved reliving the stories of his many childhood and adult adventures and making others laugh.
Alex was employed in the construction industry at APAC Ashland Division for 27 years, retiring on June 24, 2005.
Alex entered eternal rest on August 21, 2024. Alex was preceded in death by his mother Lettie B. Lowry, son Tyrone O'Neal, granddaughter TeShawn O'Neal, two brothers, Nathaniel O'Neal and Carey J. O'Neal.
Alex leaves wonderful memories to: his wife of 59 years, Gloria Ann O'Neal of Milner, GA; two sons, Rev. Alex O'Neal, Jr. (Shirlean) of Jonesboro, GA and David O'Neal of Milner, GA; four daughters, Betty O'Neal Hughley (Andrew) of Barnesville, GA, Stacey McCray (Don) of Baytown, TX, Tammy O'Neal (Jimmie) of Newnan, GA and Casey O'Neal of Milner, GA; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; godchildren, Janet Farley and Richard Farley. Alex also leaves memories to his cousin, pastor and friend Rev. Dr. A. Curtis O'Neal; a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
I will miss Deacon Alex O'Neal songs of praise and his heart felt prayers. May God Bless and strengthen the family during their time of bereavement.
