Hearing of Spurgeon's illness was tough and his passing is an extremely sad day for me.

"Freaky P" was a one-of-a-kind Frat Brother, Kindred-Spirit and "Partner-in-Puns". No truer lyrics have been written than "College Day swiftly pass...".

Those memories of his precocity and rapier wit, playfully sly smile and adventurous attitude come to mind every time I hear "Flashlight". We had some good times together Spurgeon...we had some very good times.

Saddened to learn of Spurgeon's passing this life. I met him in his freshman year at UNC. Although we did not keep up with each other over the years, time and fate would bring us together just 3 years ago when we discovered that each of us had a connection to the house his family owned for more than 40years. Seems that the now home of Preservation NC was built by my wife's great grandfather, whose family lived in Oberlin Village for 40+ years as well! Spurgeon always a quick wit, great smile and an ability to make anyone feel warm and accepted. We need more people on this planet with his kindness and warmth.
