Visitation for Mrs. Salome Hardy Berry (Manley), 77, will be 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020. Ms. Berry will be laid to rest in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.
Ms. Salome Hardy Berry (Manley) was born on June 26, 1942, in Talladega, Alabama to Alfonso Hardy and Annie B. Scott Hardy.
At an early age, Ms. Berry attended Talladega Church of God in the Lane Chapel community and continued when she returned to Talladega. She was a graduate of Ophelia S. Hill High School in Munford and pursed her college education at Adelphi University. Salome made her home in New York and was employed with the Department of Labor, worked with the Senior Youth Employment Program and was an entrepreneur. She found enjoyment in gardening and dabbling in public relations.
On Friday, May 8, 2020, Salome answered the Lord’s call at her residence. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Wilmer F. Manley; her parents, Alfonso and Annie B. Hardy; and two sisters, Dewery and Laura Jean; and six brothers, Alfonso, Jr., Paul, Rayfield, Robert, Edward and Cornelius.
Salome leaves to cherish her precious memories: four children, Raleigh Kelly of Garfield, New Jersey, Alfonso “Billy” Berry of Manhattan, New York, Shelia Berry of Queens, New York and Robert Berry of Talladega, Alabama; three grandchildren; a sister, Naomi Stevens of Talladega, Alabama; a brother, Alex Hardy of Riverside, California; a special caregiver and family friend, Robert Scott of Talladega, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
