Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what’s to be. A resting place along the road to sweet eternity. It was on May 3, 1953, in the small town of Talladega, Alabama that Lee Curtis Curry began his journey of life towards that sweet eternity. His parents, Jimmy Williams and Minnie Gooden, were entrusted with the arduous task of grooming him the life that was to come and the eternal reward he would seek to gain.
We all have different journeys, different paths along the way. We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay. Mr. Curry attended Westside High School and later completed his public school education at Talladega High School after integration. He went on to further his education at N. F. Nunnelly State Technical College in Childersburg. Like many young men at this time, Lee Curtis enlisted in the United States Army in order to establish a good foundation for the life he wanted to live. Upon completing his time served in Germany, Lee Curtis chose not to reenlist and decided to come back home to Talladega. He had been employed previously with Wehadkee Yarn Mill, Ayers Technical School and Anniston Army Depot. His brother had owned the Fiesta Club for some time and had decided it was time to close in the 1990s. Lee Curtis saw an opportunity so he reopened the club which afforded many an option for entertainment. Additionally during his free time, Lee Curtis enjoyed golf, football, softball, playing dominoes and cards.
Along this journey called life, Lee Curtis met the former Henrietta Simmons. The two united in holy matrimony on June 7, 1973. They started a family together and began living their happily ever after and to this union three children were born: Keva, Martiniz and William.
Our destination is a place far greater than we know. For some the journey’s quicker, for some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, we’ll claim a great reward and find an everlasting peace together with the Lord. When Lee Curtis’ journey ceased to be on February 22, 2023, he left behind five children to continue his legacy: Keva Antwan Curry, Martiniz Lee (Patricia) Curry, William Frances Curry, Saskia Atkinson and Jalisa Shanelle Chatman; four grandchildren, Alexis, Alex, Ja'hmere and Langdon; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Traylor, Betty Fuller and Elsie Cameron; one brother, Willie Lee (Patricia) Curry; in-laws, Rosie Curry and Rufus Threatt; and a host of other relatives and friends. Once he reached sweet eternity, he was greeted by his parents, Jimmy and Minnie; two brothers, Richard Curry and Thomas Curry; and three sisters, Bernice Adams, Evelyn Jackson and Sarah Threatt.
