Ernest Cox was born to the late Ezekiel Sr. and Novella Simmons Cox on February 4, 1954, in Elmore County, AL. Also proceeding Ernest in death are sisters, Mary Cox Nash and Vivian Cox; and a brother, Ezekiel Cox, Jr.
Mr. Cox accepted Christ at an early age at Cathmagby Baptist Church in Wetumpka, AL. He later moved his membership to Mt. Cleveland Missionary Baptist Church in Talladega, AL where he faithfully served. Ernest devotedly served as the Superintendent of Sunday School and Men’s Sunday school teacher at Mt. Cleveland. He was also a dedicated servant of the Rushing Spring District Men’s Layman Organization. Mr. Cox continued his biblical studies completing a certification from Birmingham Easonian Baptist Bible College on May 16, 2002.
Ernest received his secondary education from the Elmore County Training School and Welton Blanton Doby High School which was integrated with Wetumpka High School. He was a member of the graduating class of 1972. In May 1977, Ernest graduated from Tuskegee University, formerly known as Tuskegee Institute, with a Bachelor Science Degree in Agriculture Education. He used his degree to serve the Goodwater community where he taught Agricultural Education at Goodwater High School for two years. He was also employed with the Department of Human Resources (Montgomery, AL) and the State of Alabama as an Agricultural Inspector. He retired in 2016 after 30 years of faithful service.
Ernest leaves to cherish his memories: a faithful and devoted wife, Julia Jackson Cox of Talladega, AL; four daughters: Deborah (Dominic) Menefield of Conyers, GA, Veronica (Jimmie) McClendon of Decatur, GA, Yulanda Wilson of Talladega, AL and Olivette (Shawn) Stepney of Yorktown, VA; one son, Kerry Wilson of Talladega, AL; one sister, Sylvia Buckhannon of Wetumpka, AL; two sisters-in-law, Betty Cox of Wetumpka, AL and Betty Howell of Talladega, AL; two brothers-in-law, Alex (Willie Stean) Jackson and Edwin (Ruby) Jackson of Talladega, AL; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
