Edward Jennings Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on Friday, June 13, 1941, in Birmingham, AL, Edward went on to lead a life marked by dedication to family, education, and the arts.
A deeply educated man, Edward earned a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from Pratt Institute, a testament to his lifelong passion for art which he diligently shared with countless students throughout his career. He dedicated many years to shaping young minds as a teacher within the Anniston City School System, Alabama State University and Talladega College, inspiring both students and colleagues with his creative spirit and genuine warmth.
Edward also served his country with honor in the United States Army, where he was recognized for his skill as a sharpshooter. His commitment to excellence and service was evident both in and out of uniform.
An ardent supporter of the arts, Edward's life was a canvas of vibrant experiences and cherished relationships. He is remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Edward was the cherished husband of Classie Jennings; a devoted father to his daughters, Tamyra Walton and Tamara Cunningham; and his sons, Kwasi (Torri) Jennings, Edward Jennings III and Michael Cunningham. His legacy is further carried on by his 25 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, who continue to embody his spirit and values.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Frances Cook and brothers, David Jennings and Michael Jennings.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Frances Jennings.
Edward Jennings Jr. will be profoundly missed, but his enduring legacy will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
