A celebration of life honoring Edith Maxine Dickerson, 73, of Talladega will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend A. G. McKinney is the pastor. Bishop Jim Lowe, Jr. will deliver the eulogy. Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery. Ms. Dickerson will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the funeral home.
Edith Maxine Dickerson was born on August 5, 1949, in Talladega, Alabama.
Ms. Dickerson grew up in the Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life she began attending the Guiding Light Church in Birmingham under the leadership of Bishop Jim Lowe, Jr. where she would volunteer in the church library on the second Sunday of each month. She enjoyed fellowship with coworkers and meeting members. Maxine, as she was affectionately known, loved school. Her favorite subjects were reading and history and favorite teachers at Westside were Ms. Elizabeth Levi and Ms. Mary Isabell. Maxine graduated from Westside High School, N. F. Nunnelley State Technical College, Talladega College and the University of Alabama Birmingham.
Maxine was the mother of two young men whom she was extremely proud of, Torrance and Albert; and their children, Lauren, Aaron, Olivia, Aaden and Taylor.
Maxine transitioned on December 28, 2022. Her grandchildren were a major reason for her living. She lived, laughed, loved, lost and tried to make a difference as her legacy.

Maxine brought laughter in conversations she and I shared. I remember her featuring me in one of her writings in the local newspaper in which she worked. Mostly, I recall the time she and I worked, briefly, together at the Cheaha Mental Health Center. We had more times of belly bent laughters during my tenure with her. Rest Maxine! The work you've done will speak for you.

It isn't often one meets a person with that truly emits a light that must be from Christ. Maxine had such a warm spirit. We went to breakfast at the Aulani resort on one occasion and I learned she wrote a column for her town newspaper. She was such a beautiful person inside and out. She was a jewel. We are a better people for knowing Maxine, I will carry her spirit in my heart. May God bring comfort to Maxine's family.
My sincerest condolences to the family and enthusiastic prayers to uplift them through this tumultuous time, with all my love...
My condolences to the family and all who knew and loved Maxine. Not having met her personally, I had the pleasure of speaking, by phone, with her on many occasions, regarding my time working in Talladega (1959-1971). She was particularly interested in producing news articles relative to the history of old Eastside Elementary School and significant leaders in the Knoxville Community, an area where I (FORMERLY) worked. I enjoyed her inquisitive nature and her thirst for historical information. It was a joy to be engaged in conversations with her. May we all remember her good works and may God welcome her into His heavenly Kingdom. Charlie Varner, Jr. (Charvarn@outlook.com)
My condolences to all who knew and loved Maxine. Not having known her personally, I had the pleasure of speaking with her on many occasions, as she plied my memory of times at Eastside School and the Knoxville Community, where I formally worked. She was a gifted writer whose timely news articles were fodder for my mind. Chuck Varner, Montgomery, Alabama

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. We will have to adjust to not having her input in neighborhood watch meetings, articles in the newspaper and her involvement with our church, Wesley Chapel AME Zion. Although she was not an on roll member, she was a very active and willing participant. Rest well, Maxine. You served well.
