Obituary For Masie Lee LaGrand

Rev. Masie LaGrand, 78, of Salem, AL passed Thursday, October 27, 2022 in Tuskegee, AL.

Funeral service will be held 12 noon EST, Friday, November 4, 2022 at Franchise Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Raymond Cochran, pastor and Rev. Edward Lane, eulogist. Interment to follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 2-5 p.m. EST.

Reverend Masie Lee LaGrand was born on March 11, 1944, in Hatchechubbee, Alabama to loving and God-fearing parents that instilled the art of hard work, family and service to others in all their children. He was the 10th child out of 12 children.

Masie confessed Christ at an early age, joining and serving at Mt. Airre Baptist Church in Hatchechubbee, Alabama. Masie was educated in the Russell County School System, graduate of the Russell County Training School and after high school was drafted into the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War.

While serving in the Army, Rev. LaGrand was awarded several commendation medals including: the national defense service medal, Vietnam service medal, purple heart and bronze star medal. After Masie’s tour of duty, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Troy State University.

Masie was called into the ministry in the early 1980’s. He served in the Christian Methodist Episcopal District as an ordained minister. He pastored various churches within the C.M.E. District. Additionally, he served in several leadership roles within the denomination. Masie favorite pastime was visiting various churches, spending time with family and traveling.

Preceding Masie in death is his mother, Nannie Smith; father, Rozell LaGrand, Jr.; four sisters, Birdia L. Johnson, Mamie L. Maynard, Sarah Thomas, Nannie Mae Ducette and three brothers, Jim H. LaGrand, Earnest LaGrand and William H. LaGrand

Masie memories and legacy will live on in the hearts of his devoted wife, Earlene Davis LaGrand, Salem, AL; children, Clifford Davis, Salem, AL, Casandra (Scottie) Long, Phenix City, AL and Antonio Davis, Smith Station, AL; two grandchildren, Victoria Sheree Davis and Amari Symone Long; three sisters, Cora Scruggs, Atlanta, GA, Betty Covington, Jacksonville, FL and Benella Newsome, Hatchechubbee, AL; one brother, Rozell LaGrand, Jr., Brooklyn, New York; four sisters- in-law, Mattie LaGrand, Hatchechubee, AL, Amanda Lagrand, Phenix City, AL, Ruby Dean LaGrand, Petersburg, VA and Bobbie Battle, Hurtsboro, AL; one brother-in-law, Johnny Tucker, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
