The life of Jimmie L. Crow began on a firm foundation when Mr. Floyd Crow and Mrs. Daisy Crow birthed
and reared him on the dirt roads of Russell County, Alabama. Uncle Jimmie, as he would affectionately
become known to those far and near, was a man of great faith, loyal dedication, selfless service, and
admirable influence. He was born into a very loving and generous family. His parents placed a hedge of
protection around him and his family. They encouraged Jimmie along his journey to be of good character and great stature. Jimmie embraced and fully understood this assignment. The man, the myth, the legend learned a lot over his years in the Russell County School District. Jimmie was a standout athlete for the football and basketball teams at Mount Olive High School. He was the extraordinary 160 lb., 5'11" quarterback and tight-end for the Tigers Minutemen. After graduating high school in 1977, he matriculated to Payne College in Augusta, GA where he was a member of the basketball team.
Jimmie later returned to his hometown and began his journey with Westrock Corporation, formerly Mead Coated Board, where he labored for 28 years until retirement. Performing various vital roles for the company, he was elevated to the powerhouse B-Tech role as utility engineer.
At an early age, Jimmie confessed his life to God as his personal Savior. He took heed of the calling on his life and gave of his tithe, time, and talent to his home church of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fort Mitchell. Under the leadership of the late Rev. John Thomas, Jimmie was appointed as a church steward. Jimmie was a faithful member. He was the second longest serving steward in church history. He also was President Emeritus of the Sanctuary and Male Choirs. He also served as a Son of Allen.
On June 30, 1984, Jimmie was a man of valor that married the apple of his eye, Gloria A. Evans, and would forever honor and cherish his "Honey." To this beautiful union, three blessings were born: Leland, Amy and Raquel. Beyond his work and church, Jimmie spent time doing his favorite things with his favorite people. He found solace and pleasure in grilling and catering for large family gatherings. He would often be seen shopping in Wal-"Mark" for all of the ingredients and fixings or for the tools he needed for tuning up his cars. He valued the time he had to spend with his "Honey," his "Girls," and his "Grands."
He was preceded in death by his son, Leland Pierre Evans, his parents, and his brother, Lawrence Terry Crow.
The legacy of Jimmie will forever be cherished by his loved ones: his loving and devoted wife, Gloria A. Crow of Fort Mitchell, AL; his dedicated daughters, Amy (Amir) Anderson of Fort Mitchell, AL and Raquel Crow of Montgomery, AL; his extra special grand-children, Anashia Anderson, Ali Anderson,
and Adonis Anderson all of Fort Mitchell, AL; his sincere sisters, Dorothy Hatchett and Daisy Bynam of
Fort Mitchell, AL and Nancy (John) Boden of Phenix City, AL; his sisters-in-law, Betty (Carl) Williams of
New Orleans, LA, Emma (Willie) Miles and Linda (Bobby) Elias both of Fort Mitchell, AL, and Brenda
Hartman or Columbus, GA; his brothers-in-law, Sammy (Mary) Evans and Otis Evans both of Fort Mitchell, AL, Robert (Rita) Evans of Kennasaw, GA, and Edward (Nuray) Evans of Kuwait City, Kuwait; one
special god-daughter, Andrea (David) Logan of Detroit, MI; one uncle, Kimet Wolfolk of Fort Mitchell, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and coworkers.
