Deacon Jesse Thomas, 84, passed on Monday, September 2, 2024 Phenix City, AL.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Bethlehem Crossroad Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. P.D. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Public viewing is 12:00-5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, September 13, 2024.
Deacon Jesse James Thomas was born on December 8, 1939 in Russell County, Alabama to the late Robert and Annie Miles Thomas. He departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 2, 2024 at his home in Phenix City, Alabama.
Deacon Thomas accepted Christ as his personal savior and united with the Bethlehem Crossroad Baptist Church in Fort Mitchell Alabama. He served as a member of the usher board, a well-loved studious Sunday school teacher, and a devoted Deacon until his health declined. He loved the Lord, and he loved his family. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends having long conversations discussing the Bible. Deacon Thomas was employed for several years by Columbus Foundries Inc. in Columbus, Georgia and later completed his work career with Boral Bricks Inc. in Phenix City, Alabama before retiring in June 2006.
Deacon Thomas was preceded in death by the love of his life, Marie Johnson. One of his daughters, Gladys James. Six brothers, Robert Thomas, David Thomas, Milton Thomas, Leroy Thomas, Fred Thomas, Hugh Thomas, and three sisters: Thelma Davis, Betty Johnson, and Marie Smith.
Deacon Thomas leaves to cherish his memories, two sisters, Annie Hill (Percy) of Phenix City, Alabama and Helen Breckenridge (Ernie) of Oakland, California; one sister-in-law, Mary Dixon (Tommy); five loving children who affectionately known him as “Dad-Dad”, Joecephus Sanks (Jeannette) of Columbus Georgia, Virginia Reaves (Jeffrey)of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Lexie Marie Johnson of Mobile, Alabama, Emma Johnson and Gloria Johnson of Ft. Mitchell, Alabama,and Gwendolyn Mooney of Columbus, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
